Yeah, that's my thinking (/hoping). I'm from east NC where tractors are seen everywhere and very few, if any, have applied from this district to Duke, Wake or UNC-CH (our HYPS). Plus I go to the best school in the county. Man, I hope I'm right.
I don't think that they do it based on region, but rather based on your surroundings. If you live in a poor city district, then you shouldn't do as well as a student from a top private school in rural area.

hey i live las vegas - think that helps? not that many kids go out of state from here

I hope it's by city and not county or anything. I live in a VERY Rich county, but our city is the poorest in it. We have a huuuge illlegal immigrant popular and minority population and not the highest income, yet if you go one town over in any direction, you are dealing with schools that are almost completely white (2 blacks kids?), most kids have some expensive activity such as skiing, golf or more than likely horse back riding. Most kids in our town have never ridden a horse, but 5 minutes in one direction and you are going past million dollar houses. I REALLY hope it's by city and NOT county or region. That would screw me over. Lol, my friend's school has the top kids all 1400+ SATs and all applying to HYPS and our school... well, over 1150 is just GRAND.
