acceptances per state

Does anyone know whether admissions accepts a certain number of students from each state. I'm wondering how many people from vermont usually get accepted.

no, they don't. (btw that was post 100 for me!! gawd I have no life....)

-points to own post count and inserts meaningless garbage-

rar.

states?

yes.

not really.
geographic diversity does count for something, though, and vermont's probably not as popular a state as say... california or new jersey.
[i mean popular as in lots of people from that state apply, not popular as in admissions people like that state]

following up on what i first said, I think they're aware of how many people they're accepting from each state, but theye don't have a list in August that says, "100 from MA, 50 from vermont, 10 from kansas..." but they know generally how many from each state.

If its a factor, its but not a big one! Don't worry about it, its not like you could move to a different state to change your admissions chances. Besides, what does it matter now? Don't stress yourself out :-P

and yes pebbles, my post count is but a padawan to yours.

What if you live in NC? What if all of a sudden, the school you go to shoots to like 4-5 accepts a year? Does that help me any?

I think the top three states, in order, of where MIT students come from are

California

Texas

Massachusetts

I know in 2002 they accepted about 10-12 from Colorado.

I wonder what NJ is...i assume they must be pretty up there

I see a lot of New Jersey people up here. From thefacebook.com I got these numbers for undergrads on states I was interested in enough to search for:

Massachusetts 340
California 323
Texas 144
New Jersey 134
Florida 115
Michigan 61
Ohio 41
Colorado 28
Missouri 19
Alabama 10
Louisiana 9
Mississippi 7
Wyoming 4

Any requests?

I'm wondering why no one has mentioned New York. Sometimes it seems like everyone I know is from NY

Arizona? :)

New York 247
Arizona 19

More from Arizona than I thought. Thanks. :)

Nevada?...............?

cool. i thought FL = rural state like Wyoming (no offence at all). but 100+ from Fl woo hoo.

So is there just more people applying that live in Massachusetts or do you actually have a better chance if you are an MA resident? (Quotas?)

"Quota" is a bad word in college admissions! They don't have quotas (or at least ones that they admit to it). They will try to create a diverse class, but they don't spell out how many people from each state, that would be silly. For MA I'd actually think it would be more competitive because of all the people from MA that apply there. You want #accepted/#applied from each state, just getting the number of people that matriculate means nothing.

Honestly guys, it doesn't matter now! :-P

Nevada 4

Seems pretty low to me.
