danielsh, it's hard for me to believe that Reed would accept you and Oberlin, Vassar, Mac and Haverford would turn you down. I can see Swat and Carleton, perhaps, as they are uber-selective LACs. What gives? Is this really random or did you mess up some essays or something?

I don't think there's anything random about it. My current pattern, with my Bard acceptance thrown in, is this: schools that got my good (i.e., Chicago) essay have so far accepted me, schools that got my ****ty Common App essay have so far rejected me. Let's hope the mail tomorrow keeps the streak alive...

But that's not really the only way to explain it. I'm very close to my principal, and when we talked about colleges, Bard, Reed, and U. Chicago were the ones that she seemed most interested in seeing me attend. One of my teachers (who is also close to her) has been dropping hints that she's been giving my applications to those schools a little extra "oomph."

:) Everyone here is getting into incredible schools! Congratulations! Here's my unimpressive, but updated, list:

some more raw data for you....
Accepted: UChicago, Duke, Columbia, Penn, UW-Madison
Waitlisted: WashU
Rejected: Harvard, Brown
Pending: Stanford

May as well update too. Now heard from all my schools.
Accepted: UChicago (EA), Univ. of Southern California, Purdue, Rose-Hulman, Va. Tech, Univ. of Virginia
Waitlisted or Rejected: None!

updates now that we have gotten all of our decisions? comment on whether or not you will be attending UChicago, and if not, which school you will likely be at next year...as for me:
Accepted: UChicago, UPenn, Northwestern, Cornell, USC, UMichigan Honors, CU, NYU, Tufts
Rejected: Yale, Brown
i don't know where i am going but it's between UPenn and UChicago. suggestions?

I was pretty surprised that I was able to get six out of six. A friend of mine applied to five colleges and, last I heard, was accepted to one, rejected from three, and is waiting for the other. I would not want to be in his position and choose from only one or, at best, two colleges.

My son was accepted to: U Chicago, Northwestern, Pomona, Carleton, Emory, Wake Forest, U Rochester
Waitlisted: Claremont McKenna

He's taking a trip north in two weeks, and out west the following week. I don't know which way he is leaning, but our coffee table is littered with course books and catalogs. He wants to do poli sci or philo.

Hi texastaximom,
Just wondering, is you son doing the flying alone....my D too is planning on visiting UCicago and UMichigan, and I don't know if it's doable alone. Have you already made plans...

He's doing the trip north with my husband, because they need to rent a car and drive six hours up to Carleton after they look in the city. My husband used to do a lot of work in Chicago, so he can easily (as easily as one can) navigate, but my son who has only had the exasperation of Austin and Houston on his driving resume could end up in Indiana! They are flying in to O'Hare and out of Minneapolis.

The second trip he'll do alone, as he can fly into a small airport, shuttle over, spend the night in the dorms and eat on campus, and then reverse it back home. As much as I'd love a quick trip to So Cal, it's just not in the budget.
