i am confused as to why so many students have already been accepted when i haven't even auditioned at some of those schools? shouldn't they wait until they have heard all applicants? i am getting worried. =(

Not to worry. Different schools have different ways of doing things. Some have specific early review programs that could grant acceptances to strong candidates as early as December of senior year. Some have rolling admissions and make decisions on the fly, starting to accept students as early as October of senior year. Some schools on a regular admissions schedule will send out early admits for applicants that they are certain will make the grade and make the less obvious decisions later after auditions are over. Some wait until they have heard everyone before notifying anyone and send out their decisions on April 1 or even a week to ten days later.

In trying to attract the best talent they can get, schools make early decisions in hopes of getting commitments and deposits earlier in the admissions cycle. It is kind of like having a lower admission price for tickets bought in advance rather than at the door of a concert. It makes it easier to handle the last-minute rush and gives the administrative types some confidence that they will be able to fill all their seats. It also helps applicants to know they have an acceptance in their back pocket when going to later auditions, and perhaps even allows them to cancel some of the later auditions for schools well down their list.

Hang in there. The waiting is hard but it will be over in five or six weeks and then April will just fly by if you have some hard decisions to make.

Yep, what he said. And you’re stressing as you asked the same basic question here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1078974-college-acceptances.html

Relax. Chill. Read the prior waiting threads. Take deep breathes. Then go practice.

Repeat after me:

“It will all be over soon.”
“It will all be over soon.”
“It will all be over soon.”

i guess i just need some reassurance sometimes!! thank you both of you…

yeah, a lot of times there is an early action or early decision period that sends out acceptances earlier because those people auditioned/applied earlier. and rolling admissions as noted before sends out acceptances whenever they feel ready. don’t worry :)

What do people do during the waiting period? Especially for music majors, do they practice a lot more? or is it just kinda relaxing time? LOL. I’ve just been unbelievably lazy and I felt my playing skills have decayed. Is this normal? …

i started on new pieces (finally), but i’ve definitely been more relaxed now!

thelovelybones, dont worry most of the schools where I audition didn’t notified until the end of March of the beginning of April

i was pretty lethargic after the first week once i was done but now it’s back into high gear, two choirs, 0 period jazz band, an accapella group and my own personal ventures keep me busy ;)

thank you texansoprano!! i am such an impatient person ahhh!!!

haha oh yeah me too! i started on some new pieces but i’ve already listened to them before like hundreds of times so i’m already tired of it T^T. lol well practicing is always so tiring.
