Any idea when they will be notifying of an acceptance? Does it come through an email, phone call or snail mail?

There’s a great thread in the MT general forum with lots of info about notifications for many schools. I think Tisch notifies by email on April 1st around 5pm EST. It’s on their website. Here’s that thread: <a href=“MT Notification Dates and Methods Spring 2014 - Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1613510-mt-notification-dates-and-methods-spring-2014-p1.html

It will be an email and they will swear you can’t see a thing on Albert but you probably can. My daughter could see it in Albert before she got her email but it was the same day the emails went out so no need to check before then. Your best bet is to keep an eye on the admissions blog on the admissions website. They will eventually make it clear when the decisions are coming out. Last year’s decisions came out on 3/29 and the studio assignments did not come out for a little over 2 weeks after that.

@halflokum I can’t find the admission blog. I’ve gone through all the pages, but the only blog I found was on the Special Programs page. Please help :)

@DoReMiMom, see the column to the right. For sure they will eventually mention something about the date here as time draws closer. <a href=“Undergraduate Admissions”>http://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions.html

It will likely come from Shawn Abbott but it could also be others. Tisch results come out with the rest of NYU. I suspect you were looking in the Tisch pages. Good luck finding ANYTHING there. :-)

Thank you so much! The wait is killing us.

DoReMiMom the wait is killing us too!!! Hang in there.

I found the blog. Thank you so much. The wait is insane and intense. I’m also constantly kicking myself for not being more persuasive with my daughter when it came to letting them know if she would accept any studio. She stands her ground -still - and said she’d prefer to attend the one small school she’s been accepted to for a BFA MT than attend Tisch for acting. On one hand, I’m grateful she has convictions at age 17 and knows exactly what she wants, but I think in hindsight (even if its 20 years down the road), she may see things differently.

DoRe… Although my son is a proud grad of Tisch (deciding at the last moment to accept any studio — and was placed in Playwrights) and is very pleased with his training, He embraced his program with gusto. I’m sure that his energy was based in part from knowing this was his choice. I’m sure your daughter will do the same wherever she lands.

How are scholarships/financial aid at tisch. We all know how expensive it is

Scholarships are rare with a few exceptions. Over the last couple of years I have known quite a few kids who were accepted but could not go. Luckily they had other choices.

My son got money amounting to about a 25% reduction in tuition.

Does anyone know what total cost (tuition, room, board, fees) per year will be for 2014-15?

No, but NSB is typically $5000 more than other majors. Our total cost per semester, for the 2013-2014 academic year, including room and board with the low-cost housing option is approximately $ 33,000 per semester. That includes the 14/ week meal plan.

With everything… I figured its about 72k. Rated most expensive school in the country

It is not 72k. MtmomNSB provides a good number above.

MTmomNSB- just a small clarification so new students and their parents don’t worry that tuition varies by studio placement- There is no tuition difference by studios- all Tisch drama students pay the same, although Design and Production have some small add-ones related to materials and liability insurance, but it’s not significant But yes, MTmomNSB is correct that Tisch tuition is higher than CAS, as an example, and by appx 5k. I think Stern is slightly less than Tisch.

Does Tisch not do the “in the Square” events anymore?

One thing for incoming Freshman to note: housing for second year students is not typically as cheap as first year students. Particularly, if your student wishes to live near “campus”. Our tab for housing will likely double, albeit we were in a low cost option. That said, its probably safe to assume that your housing will jump $4,000+ sophomore year.

Keeping it real I’d never use the word “cheap” to describe NYU housing no matter what the year. It’s NYC after all.

The cost change between freshman year and the next is mainly because as you get into the upper grades, the housing options all are apartments with kitchens and a common living space. First year, you can have housing in your more traditional dorms which are just bedrooms and a shared bath OR you might have an apartment style housing choice in which case, the price will look more or less the same. (Compare the price of 3rd North for example to a next year’s apartment gig at Palladium. Not that different.)

My daughter lived in Founders her first year. AMAZING space (compared to my college experience anyway) but no kitchen and no common spaces in the suite. This past year she lived in an apartment-style housing. We did have to pay more for that but I’m fairly sure by … $1000ish? I could look up the exact numbers but it is something like that. You can search on the housing costs and get the specifics. There is a PDF with the details. There are low cost options offered every year. It mostly translates to being willing to share a bedroom with more than one person or forgo air conditioning. Let’s face it though. Anyone thinking housing in NYC will ever look like they would pay in rural New York etc… is going to be sadly disappointed. Expect to pay upwards of 14-15K/year.
