acceptances?

i had extremely low sat scores but i could had focused more on the reading
(cr 420, math 570, writing 530 with an act of 21). i honestly could had practiced the sat/act but i always thought that it was not going to be a biggie for me.
as a senior, i obtained straight As while taking the toughest course load in school so i guess my gpa, ecs, essays, and teacher recs got me in.

i remember a umass admission counselor came to my school and she told me that they require a 3.0 and above, but if you obtain lower than a 3.0, they will use a sliding scale. they also use this system where they re-calculate your gpa if you take like honors and ap so it kind of boosts up your weighted gpa.

as a massachusetts resident, chances to get into umass amherst are pretty high because alot of students apply there as a safety. in the end, the ones that are not accepted were waitlisted and accepted to the spring term.

When did everyone send their apps. in? I sent mine in, i believe on October 28th EA, and I still haven't received a decision.

When did everyone send their apps. in? I sent mine in at the end of October for EA and I still haven't heard.

sam--i sent my app around the say time and i havent heard yet either. the admissions office said they are going to be working every day this week minus christmas day to get the rest of the apps done

Man I hoped for a Christmas present, but nothing yet. Anyone have an idea on out-of-state, minority being helpful? My essay was really good and my recommendations were amazing (whudda thunk).

Jerseygirl, thanks for the response

hi samwills.. I'm in the same boat as you

i like boats

umad umad??

umad lol?
umad lowell?

My son got accepted just found out he got accepted into the Honors Program today. He found out on 12/24 that he got accepted for engineering (applied around 10/27). Good luck to all those who are waiting.

Ditto. Just saw the results online. D accepted w/invite to the honors college. We're excited!

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""D""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" ahahahahahahahahhahahhahahahahahaha

have all of the acceptances so far been to early applicants? have any RD applicants heard back yet?

Has anyone heard RD? My D applied EA but for some reason the common app was downloaded after the deadline (?). Anyway, she checked in mid January and they said they are missing her HS transcript (which had been sent in October) so she asked them to recheck, they called her back, said they had it. She just checked her application status online and it still says missing HS transcript.........Hoping that the web site just wasn't updated. Anyway, wondering if any RD's have heard yet?

My niece applied RD and has not heard. However, I would call the school again to make sure everything is in place. It should not say you are missing anything at this point. I would not assume anything especially since there are so many applicants. Good luck

Not to get anyone nervous or anything, but I spoke to someone at UMass admissions this afternoon - they have received approx. 32,000 applications for the fall term, so they're "a little behind" in their processing of applications

My son applied EA but was deferred into RD.
Went to a very tough Prep school in NJ (Seton Hall) and had a 3.1 gpa
Sat's - Math was a solid 640 but CR was poor at 490
Essay was a 560
Biology major
He's probably on the bubble but has anyone been denied or accepted with similar grades?

Thx,

Anxious in NJ

Jacimo,

Our sons are schoolmates. Cant reveal more, as my son made me PROMISE that while I surf these sites that I not reveal anything in any level of detail that gives away his identity. Its a HS boy thing I guess. My son's SAT scores were somewhat similar to yours (1790), GPA 3.3

He has applied to UMASS, but it was only at my urging, so if he doesn't get in, he wont be disappointed. Surprisingly he is in at 3 very good state schools, and will likely attend one of those, even if he gets into UMASS.

Several former Prep students have gotten into UMASS with similar stats, but with the school receiving a record numbers of apps this year, that tide may change, especially for non-residents.

Where does this school rank on his wish list? Has he son gotten in anywhere else? Did he apply to Rutgers? I am hearing that many Prep students did not get into RU this year, even those with higher GPAs/SATs.

Small world huh?
Yes, he was denied at Rutgers and Ramapo. Those were his #1 and 2 choices.
UMass his 3rd.
I spoke to an admin counsellor at Rutgers and he said they really don't accept many students at all below a 3.5 gpa.
He also said that a 3.1 was in the bottom 50% of Seton Hall this year so that speaks volumes for the school.
He did get into Penn State, Rhode Island and Monmouth.
He will probably go to Monmouth (he has 2 cousins there) if he doesn't get into UMass. He received a pretty decent size grant from them so we may take advantage. If he isn't happy after his first year, he will transfer to Rutgers.
The Rutgers admission rep also said its much easier to transfer next year. He said the general rule is anything about a 2.5 or above in Freshman year at any college is good enough to transfer. What really surprised me is he was turned down for Rutgers Newark where generally anything above a 3.0 is good enough but its probably because he didn't apply there until the end of February.
Did your son get accepted to Rutgers New Brunswick? I assume so from your post. Thats pretty good with a 3.3
My son said he knows a student who got in with a 2.9 and lower SAT's because his parents know one of the admission reps. He has to go to 1 semester at Newark but it really doesn't seem fair.
My son also applied to Delaware but expectations aren't high. Thats a tough one to get into with anything less than a 3.5
Anyway, what other state schools did he get into. (no worries about me repeating anything)

Good luck!

Yes, small world. Rutgers has a very interesting admissions policy which is somewhat concerning. My son has friends who got into Rutgers who attend schools that arent the most challenging, for lack of a better word. Because of such, their GPAs are higher than his. It may not be the case all around, but I question just how much they consider the rigorous curriculum of a private school vs. public. My son also applied to the RU business school which is competitive. Had he applied as undecided, liberal arts, he would may have stood a better chance. Again, Rutgers was not high on his list, so again not a whole lot of disappointment there. We know of friends whose children got in with lower GPAs and they are out of state, which leads me to believe that higher tuition income factored into the admissions office for those. So far he is in at UFL, Clemson & Maryland. Right now it looks like UFL or Maryland. Waiting for a few other reach schools, one with legacy, and UMASS, so we'll see. I will check the UMASS site again, because it continues to say they dont have his transcript and his application was completed before the Dec, holidays,
