Acceptances?

@esconie- My safeties are IIT and IISER, so I didn’t apply to any American safeties :stuck_out_tongue: By no means can I be called a genius!
Also, I’m certain you’re not a ■■■■■ :D

Thanks rumjhum, gary…though I’m not quite sure what a ■■■■■ is :S

@gary
IIT is your safety –> you are, by definition, a genius. In which case, am I gonna meet you at the olympiad camps?

turns red
I missed the astro camp by 3 marks!
Silly mistakes worth 30 marks on that paper <<
And i missed the other camps too. So NO. Did we meet in the KVPY camp btw?
About IIT, thousands of kids can’t be called a genius <<

All applicants are awesome…

Though its kinda weird that someone got rejected by UIUC and accepted by Purdue… :/

Anyway. Seriously speaking, how easy is it to get in?

Applied for B.S. Comp. Engg./C.S-

UC Berkeley (Waiting 4 Decision)
UIUC (Accepted)
UMich (Waiting 4 Decision)
Purdue (Accepted)
Syracuse University (Accepted - just got d admissions letter)

Waiting desperately 4 Berkeley…

@aniruddh:

It’s nt weird man, its completely normal
coz Purdue has a ~75% acceptance rate while UIUC has a ~55-60% acceptance rate…
(Engineering in UIUC has even lower acceptance rate)

Have you done A-Levels/IB then or completed a year of college in India?

They don’t give out conditional admission to internationals.

^ Uh, UK universities do. That’s how the system works. And for Oxbridge/LSE/UCL, they don’t look at any Indian board exams unless you’ve completed a year of degree college in India. The only qualifications they look at from an applicant from Asia while in high school, is IB/A-Levels. Esconie claims to have a got an unconditional offer which is unlikely, unless he/she has done a year of college in India or got their final IB/A-Levels results.

I’m posting my Conditional Offer letter; see my next post. I hope it is helpful.

P.S: I’ve removed my name and address

UCAS

Offer Letter
AS3

*********(Name and Address)

Please read ALL of the information in this letter

Dear ********(Name)

Congratulations; University College London (University of London) has asked us to tell you that it is offering you a place for Environmental Engineering, H224; starting in September 2010 at point of entry 1.

The conditions of the offer are:

This offer is subject to you obtaining

See also a letter sent by the institution

GCE A level
Grades AAA in
Mathematics
Physics
Biology

It is important that you understand your offers before making any replies. If, after reading this letter carefully, you do not understand this offer, please seek advice from the university or college concerned. The information below will help you understand this offer. It advises you on meeting any conditions and tells you where to find further advice on replying to offers.

If your offer is unconditional, the university or college is offering you a place based on the qualifications you already hold.

If your offer is conditional, the university or college requires you to fulfil the conditions above before the place can be confirmed. They may specify that completed qualifications can be used to meet the conditions or they may exclude specific qualifications. Conditions may be expressed in terms of grades, marks, or completion of your current course, or in terms of UCAS Tariff points, or both (for details of the Tariff, please see [UCAS - UCAS Tariff](http://www.ucas.com/students/ucas_tariff/)). Within the Tariff, if you count points at A level in a subject, you cannot add further points for a grade in that same subject at AS; the same applies to SAQ Advanced Highers and Highers. Some offers are conditional on GCSE or Scottish Standard Grades. Grades A-C are acceptable in GCSE, 1-3 in Standard Grade. If the conditions are not clear, please contact the university or college for clarification.

^ Yeah, that’s how I know it works. Do they ever give out unconditional offers until after the final results are out in July/August, Karottu?

We need to fulfill the conditions of the offer by August 31st. So I guess they’ll make the offer unconditional once we fulfill the conditions. But, I’m not sure how things will work from here. I’ve not yet accepted the offer. (If you see my previous post in this thread, you’ll see that) I’m waiting for a few more decisions.

^ Yeah, once your A-Level results come out, they either firm up your offer, if you meet your condition or reject you, if you didn’t meet the condition. Of course, in certain cases, if you miss the condition by a slight margin, you can appeal and if they have place, they may accept you. Kind of how the waitlist works in America. You’re still waiting for offers from Imperial/LSE to make your firm choice in the UK, I’m guessing? Good Luck!

Thanks for that.

I’d rather go to Harvard or MIT. Those are my top preferences. But, who knows what will happen.

@ Gary
turns redder
Massive attack of nerves during the interview –> no KVPY for me :(

I screwed up the INOs too (arithmetic mistakes in INMO ftw!) but I think I’m scraping through in PCA.

@ Karottu
Sorry missed your post earlier, I wanna study - EE, CS, Physics, Economics, Linguistics, History, Modern Languages…everything? That’s why for me Stanford>MIT>>Trinity>IIT, BUT I’m still ‘dying’ to know ;)

Btw, at Cambridge my subject would be Engineering…

@ Paradox
You’re right, Oxbridge doesn’t recognize Indian board exams. But I gave some AP exams last year (ie in 11th grade) and Trinity’s minimum entry requirement is 4 grade 5’s so, yeah, I got an unconditional.

Yeah, the UK always acts as a back up of sorts, I guess. Good luck with all the US decisions as well. Btw, have you received decisions from Imperial/LSE yet?

Ah ok, that makes sense since they accept American applicants with APs at Oxbridge etc. Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks  Yeah, ten minutes of my interview was like “Why do you have AMerican qualifications?” “So you want to go to America?” “So you wouldn’t attend Trinity anyway?” etc lol

Not yet.

Though, I no longer care about LSE. I intend to become a scientist ( and do research in Renewable Energy). LSE Environment Policy with Economics course is more Social Science centered.

And, though Environmental Engineering at UCL is attractive, I cannot afford to go. I was hoping to apply for the HSBC Scholarship. But,this happened…(see [The HSBC Scholarship Programme | HSBC India](http://www.hsbc.co.in/1/2/miscellaneous/about-hsbc/hsbc-scholarship-programme)).

So, technically I’m waiting only for Imperial. They do not have EnvEng, but they have Mech and Nuclear Eng, with possibility for sponsorship. And, Imperial Engineering department is one of the best in the world.
