Congrats esconie
hope you get into stanford

esconie, are you from Ruparel/Ruia? Your achievements are pretty great, considering that you not only went beyond your curriculum, but excelled while at it, as well. Congratulations.

Admitted: USC, UCLA, UCSD, UCR
Rejected: Yale
Waiting for: Brown, Columbia, Berkeley, Williams, Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, Northwestern, Chicago, Duke, and there’s more
Yea, I applied to A LOT of places!

Congrats Rumjhum on your UC admissions! Good luck with the rest.

@ poseidon

Um…thanks but I already got into Stanford (cf earlier post!)

@QuasiProfound and @Meghna - My last ISC exam is on 7th April so I will know by then for sure. Can’t keep my parents of it. The package will come anyhow. I hope I get accepted! I haven’t heard from anywhere as of yet…

BTW - I’m back for somre time this time!

Also… CONGRATS to everyone who has already gotten in. :)

Hey Guys,

My son got into Georgia Tech and UCLA for Undergrad in Mech Engg. Where would you go and why?

GA Tech if he likes snow and UCLA if he likes the sand. Can’t go wrong with either.

An Indian father on CC, a first!

@gopi2659:

Congratulations!

[Undergraduate Engineering Specialties: Mechanical - Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/spec-doct-mechanical)

UCLA is not on the list
Georgia Tech is ranked 4th.

Anyway, rankings don’t matter much unless there is a substantial difference between them… (6th ranked UIUC will be as good as Georgia Tech).

@gopi2659:

Both are good schools and you can not go wrong with either.

UCLA campus (location) is better than GT’s.

GT has a better reputation for engineering studies than UCLA, including mechanical engineering.

Generally it doesn’t snow much in Atlanta. However, this year has been unusual. It snowed in LA as well. Atlanta winters are very mild compared to northern/mid-western states.

It is cheaper to live in Atlanta than LA.

If I were in your position I would advise my son to go to GT. UC system is in big financial trouble because of economy. Expect class sizes to get bigger and bigger. As an outsider I would stay away from UCs for undergraduate studies. They make perfect sense for in-state students.

Ok, no dads for years, and now 2 at the same time!
Good to see you here :)

Thanks gary7.
Best of luck to you all.

Thank you :)

@gopi2659
congrates for getting into georgia tech! it is very good for Mech. eng.
I am also a parent of a student in Junior year, we will be applying next year. May i know your sons’ stats and ECs? Which board he is in? I am asking this as my son is very much interested in Mech eng at G Tech.

Even I got into UCLA, GT, UIUC, Purdue for Mech Engg.

Waiting for the big ones to get back by the 1st.

anonymous23, my case is the same as urs (even im applyin for mechanical engineering)

Really wanna get into UMich though
Neone knows wen their decisions come out

@poseidon:

Cool! So you got into USC too, huh! Congrats! :)

I got accepted into Hofstra, SUNY Stony Brook, and Illinois Institute of Technology.
I got rejected by Caltech and University of Chicago.
I’m thinking--------I’m cool. What the heck!!
Waiting on Princeton…

I’m still waiting for my first waitlist or acceptance :P
