Just checked my status this morning...and I got accepted!!!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Penn State!

I am pleased to offer you admission to The College of Information Sciences & Technology for Fall 2011 at Penn State University Park. I hope that the information provided on this page will help give you a head start on thinking about your offer to Penn State.

We have you classified as a first-year student with Pennsylvania residency. If you have questions about your classification, please contact Admissions for more information.

I guess I will be receiving a letter in the mail soon from the threads that I've read?

Anyways, here are my quick stats...
GPA - 3.9 UW
SAT - 1580/2400
Letters of Rec - 3 good ones
Essay/activities - somewhat thorough
Hook - none

Too bad I paid $47 last week go to waste on the SAT's. Oh well.

congratulations!! what day exactly did u apply? I applied on Sept 12 and have a 4.0 UW GPA and an 1830 SAT collectively, do you think Im good? but anyways congratulations again!

Penn State DOES NOT begin notifying students of admission until November 1 2010. This is from the site and the office of admissions. For all of you that think acceptances happen in OCTOBER, you are being fooled!! Go to [Welcome to Penn State’s Home on the Web](http://www.psu.edu) and read for yourself!!!

I called PSU admissions to get some information regarding my son’s application. While on the phone, I asked them why some of my son’s classmates had received acceptance letters prior to 11/1/10. She reported that they had an error in their admission process and sent out offers earlier than they should have, but would stand behind their offers. She implied that possibly some students received offers to main campus that they might not have normally been offered.

^^
Thanks for posting an update. Unless you were CollegeMom1315 in a previous User ID life then we still need to wait for her to validate this information and admit she was wrong.

Not to play Devil’s advocate-but you are all kind of right. There was a phantom “Computer glitch” that posted those rogue decisions earlier than was scheduled or planned policy. AND there are some CB people who have claimed admission to various schools who HAD not, as of the post, had NOT accepted anyone (maybe creating an atmosphere of Paranoia)

sundance- you and others have implied that those that received decisions early were part of a glitch that was reported in the Daily Collegian. However, that glitch affected only 700 students who received on online status of “accepted” over the weekend of Oct 9/10. I checked my D’s status everyday and she did not received that online notice. The first we heard of her acceptance was when her online status changed on Oct. 20. I checked her status daily so I know for sure that is the date her status changed, therefore she could not have been part of the glitch that was reported in the Daily Collegian on Oct. 11. Her acceptance letter was dated Oct. 18 and we received it in the mail Oct. 21. I realize that the computer glitch has caused many people to assume that anyone accepted earlier than Nov 1 was merely part of a “glitch”- however, the facts don’t bear that out. Moreover, the innuendo that people who were accepted might not have been qualified is a kind of “sour grapes” attitude that I find offensive. It would be one thing if the acceptances people posted were of mediocre applicants- my D was in the “blue” on the Penn State bubble chart that has been posted and therefore I have no reason to believe she was a part of any “glitch” or somehow unqualified.

Congratulations to all who have been acceped? Does it really matter if you are part of a computer error? If your daughter was in the blue section on the bubble chart-and even if she wasn’t-just ignore the comments from those frustrated and waiting. You can imagine if your daughter, who is clearly being admitted because of merit, was still waiting and seeing people with inferior stats post acceptanced notifications. It is quite possible that “some” people admitted from the glitch were not as qualified as your daughter. In any event, there is no need to be defensive–she’s in!
