Accepted 2 bus admin fall 2010

I'm not sure if I will end up attending. I just found out I got into UCLA for Biz Econ and UCSD for MGMt Sci.

I know I'm giving up some perceived prestige if I go to UCI but the ability to complete the courses need to get my CPA and the courses offered through Merage are swaying me towards UCI. To be honest I think I have it down to UCI and UCLA.

I'm a transfer if that matters so I'll get to dive right into the fatty heart of the major courses right away which is a huge turn-on.

What are the other accepted "Meragers" thinking out there?

Are you sold on the new program?
What excites you most about it

Congrats man! I was sold after they told me that only 150 were accepted out of 4000! I’m in a similar situation, but I have chosen UCI Bus. Admin. over UCSD Management Science, and I couldn’t be more excited. Good luck.

I quite don’t understand how 150 are accepted out of 4,000. Does that mean that 4,000 students applied for business admin, and only 150 were accepted for the major?

If that’s the case, then it doesn’t make total sense. They can’t think that the yield rate would be that high. From what I know, the business admin major is not as competitive as people say it is.

I was accepted into the major last year with a 1950 SAT, 4.0 UC GPA, no SAT II’s that are above 700, and mediocre extra-curriculars.
My roommate was also accepted into the major with lesser stats than of mine.

Regardless, the Merage’s MBA program is actually quite prestigious, its in the top 15 of the nation, last time I read BusinessNews

I wouldn’t be too sure about the undergrad program though, since there are no current graduates from the major.

The wording is mis-leading. 150 is the target class size. Given UCI’s yield rate in the low 20%, campus-wide, admission would send out 4x to 5x acceptance, consider business is impacted, it might offer a litter less than other major.

monkeyboy, I’m having the same decision to make as you. Im really in a rut because if I go to UCLA, its not even for sure that Ill get into the biz econ major. We still have to apply once more after taking econ 11 and 101… at uci, we are guaranteed a spot in biz admin.

Alan you hit it dead on. Knowing I am assured of a spot in Merage is def. tipping me towards UCI. I also look at it as we wouldnt be on track time wise with other juniors in our major at UCLA we would be more like sophomores since they make up a big chunk of Econ 11 an 101. Going further we wouldn’t even be biz econ majors recall we are PRE-biz econ majors.

The curriculum for UCI also seems to interest me more. I am very interested in gaining as much grounding in finance and accounting and UCI seems better suited to allow me to do that. I say that because UCLA requires a series of microeconomic theory and I’m not so sure I’m so interested in studying the theory of things so much as I am applicable finance and accounting matter.

@junshik.

Like watermark said, their ideal class size for the major is 150, more than 150 got accepted, I’m sure.

Why did you pass up on the business admin. major?

Oh its a long story but lets just say I was mis-informed about major changes, and then I was unable to switch back to business admin.

And now here I am, taking the pre-req classes and hoping I can get back in, which is very unlikely. I’ll probably end up in Biz Econ and minor in one of the progs that Merage offers (mgmt or accounting).

Good plan. How are the classes you have taken so far like?

Classes I have taken so far or in progress that are required for business admin:

Math 2A, Econ 20A/B, and Econ 25 (MGMT 30A), Mgmt 10

Math 2A: I was never good at calculus… and never will be. Got a B.

Econ 20A/B: Loved them, especially 20B (Macro). Got an A- in 20a, A+ in 20b.

Econ 25 (MGMT 30A): Good so far… professor just comes here to lecture at night and works fulltime as a banker. Only cares that we learn the material, not about grades.

Mgmt 10: one of my favorite classes… by Professor Eppel. He’s great! Class was very easy too.

Any one plan on taking upper div mgmt classes this summer? I’m considering taking the two upper div acct courses (131A/B) but if I don’t take them, I’ll take two upper div core courses instead probably (mgmt 101 & 107) along with mgmt 10.
