I am sorry about the deferrals.....that is always a painful reality. However, it does seem that you are still in the pool and that depending on how the RD applicants look, since its relative to that, you may all be offered spots. So dont despair. Sometimes its capricious and we dont always understand the outcomes. Its not personal, its just a tough situation...with so many wanting to attend Fordham and there are only between 1600 and 1700 slots open for freshmen. 7,000 applicants just for EA, and they will likely get another 15,000 or more for the RD cycle.....ouch!

If I have helped anyone this week get through this, know that its genuine and I care. We went through this last year and it was grueling at times.....and while we had a great outcome at Fordham (RD..did not even apply EA), and my D is THRIVING up there, we know what happens all around the country.

Some schools allow you to supplement if you are deferred. Some say absolutely not. So check on that and see what they say. Maybe if you visit and give an interview it might help out so ask about that as well.

Daughter Accepted to Lincoln Center Campus:

1490/1600 2260/2400 SAT
33 ACT
National Merit Semifinalist
4.3 Weighted GPA (class rank not reported, but should be top 10% if not top 5%)
Lots of theater involvement

Also received full tuition scholarship.

Unsure if she will attend (applied to 11 schools), but it seems to offer a nice combination of academics and theater and the scholarship is hard to ignore. Any thoughts about Fordham for a strong academic student who is also interested in theater (probably as a minor)?

I've read your past posts and it looks like your daughter already has some very nice choices to pick from with acceptances, and I'm sure it'll continue into the regular decision period.

Although your preference appears to be the midwest part of the country, I can tell you some things about Fordham. Its academics are quite strong without being "cut-throat" as in other places. Its Honors Program at Rose Hill is exceptional, and would imagine Lincoln Center's would be the same. Fordham Lincoln Center is known for their Theater Program, and with it being in the "theater capital" of the US, I think it would be a hard combination to pass on for someone interested in theater, and receiving approx. a 130-150K academic scholarship. The Lincoln Center campus itself is in a very safe part of Manhattan that has a lot of vibrant life going on around it. Fordham, both the school and its grads, is very highly respected in the NYC metropolitan area, probably to a higher extent than when compared to some top 20 schools. It is known for putting out grads who are academically solid and well rounded.

For your daughter's interests, it sounds like it would be a perfect match, and with a National Merit Scholarship on top of this no less. From a parent's point of view, I can tell you that it will be a safe location, and Fordham does look out for its kids that dorm -- unlike other NYC colleges.

I don't envy your position, sometimes it's better not to have too many choices.

I ditto all of the above. Its a superb school and theatre program! I simply cant imagine you could do much better. Congratulations to your daughter.

I see with your posts that you are very close to a West Pt. spot - congrats! If that's the case, don't feel bad with Fordham because the two are night and day in difference in what they are preparing a young adult to be. If you are really gunning to be a cadet and a future soldier, I'm not sure if Fordham, where philosophical debate about EVERYTHING is encouraged, is the place for you. This type of education is not what the Point is about. I spent 3 yrs on active duty at USMA, taking care of the cadets and interacting with them. It takes a certain personality to thrive in that environment as a student. So, if that's where you truly want to be, Fordham is an enormously huge difference even with factoring in ROTC. Just be sure with what you want for the next part of your life, and really go for it. I do agree with one of your posts, do get your SAT verbal up a bit in Jan.

college kid: what are your sats? In the world of hyper competitive admissions, they have to draw the line in the sand, sadly, somewhere..and that means someone..some people...will be deferred.....its just the breaks...as of TODAY. Hang in there, its not over until the fat lady sings.

Wyclef, you have great SAT's and mediocre grades.....and I am sorry about that. Yes, you have taken honors and AP classes...but so have most other applicants....and the average gpa for admissions is 3.7.....and rising. Now dont give up hope....perhaps you get in...so see what you can do...and ONE thing you can do is get INCREDIBLE grades for THIS semester and IMPROVE your GPA and show them you can do college level work and thrive.

Its a tough world out there, believe me. Kids who got into Harvard Princeton and Yale 20 years ago would not get in today in many cases.

Dychang: I concur with WillyWanka. I am not a service academy graduate but I served (with distinction) for six years in the uniform of my country, proudly. No more about that, because this is NOT about me. Military life and the service academies are not necessarily about the exploration of differing philosophical viewpoints....you will learn and you MUST learn the mindset and philosophical viewpoints of our enemies but you are NOT asked to adopt them. There is one way and its the military way or the highway...and for some the highway to Ft. Leavenworth Kansas military brig if you are a real troublemaker. On the otherhand, becoming a commissioned officer in our military is an honor and privilege afforded to few people and if you get in, and if you earn an Appointment from the President, then by all means go. And if you do, I salute you, soldier!

Scarolina89...hang in there you should get RD. The entire process is a mystery...my D got accepted at Fordham and PSU Main Campus with but got deferred at Villanova. I think that the high number of applicants is really aggravating the decsion porcress.

My S applied EA but he got his rejection letter this week. He would gladly trade places with anyone who was accepted but chooses not to enroll. Fordham was his top choice. Fortunately, he has plenty of other options.

Congratulations to all who were accepted. You have some amazing credentials!

also did not get into BC and these were the only 2 schools ive heard from and both in the same week.

of the 8 from my school who applied EA, im the only one who got deferred.
