Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong. My counselor I know wrote me a good recommendation, and the teacher who wrote mine I'm sure wrote me a great one. My essays were not the BEST I've ever written but I read them through again the day I got the letter and thought they weren't horrible. They talked about how living in another country for a year without my family taught me independence and made me want a career in diplomacy.

Just a question..does Fordham view the ACT the same as SAT? My ACT was considerably higher than my SAT.

Oh well, I guess I wasn't quite what Fordham was looking for in an EA applicant. This probably means I won't get any merit scholarships, meaning I won't be able to attend even if I get in RD.

also got the semifinalist scholarship (NHRP)... which since i live in manhattan is basically a full ride for me..... i'll probably end up there but lets wait and hear from everyone else first! congrats to all else who were accepted!!!

Twin 1 accepted last week! He's not sure about it yet though. We drove through the RH campus, which is beautiful. A little nervous about sending my "baby" to college in the Bronx!

We describe Fordham as a "squished" Notre Dame. They do look a lot alike !

Great recs and was really satisfied with my essay (was about Harry Potter :).

My son was accepted with the $10,000/yr. Dean's Scholarship. He's 5th of 850, 2290 on SAT (800M, 760V, 730W) with 10 AP classes, etc.

He was also admitted at Drexel in Philadelphia with full tuition for five years (one year is a co-op program). That's worth about $30,000 per year.

I think the Fordham letter said there was a possibility of additional funds, but I don't remember for sure.

He really likes Fordham a lot, but the Drexel scholarship is tempting. He's just going to wait until he hears from all of his schools to make a decision. We won't qualify for need-based aid and our daughter is currently applying to grad schools, so money is an issue. She's about to graduate from UChicago.

My son has been admitted at Fordham, Drexel, Redlands, U of Texas and Colorado School of Mines so far. He also applied to George Washington, American, U of Southern California, Rhodes, CalTech and U of North Carolina. We'll see.

Congratulations. If your daughter is going to graduate school, doesn't that also count on your financial aid application? Or are you simply not going to file for financial aid because of your income and assets?

Given your son's stats, I think he will have several more acceptance letters. My suggestion is that he listens to his heart and goes where he really wants to attend. Each of the schools that you mentioned are very different and from all over the country.

From your list the thing that makes Fordham stand out is the fact it is in New York and it is a Jesuit university.

Money can be an issue on the front end of an education. But also consider the money he will make when he graduates.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Have you visited campus yet?

cograts to the accepteds and if you choose to matriculate, welcome to the Fordham family. For those deferred or rejected, good luck with your other applications.

Seafoodlover -- I, too, noticed that my son's college choices were very different. He made the choices himself, for various reasons. He really likes Fordham and, yes, he has visited. He has dual interests -- computer science and international business/Asian studies.

Fordham has an asian studies program and an MBA program in Beijing. They also teach Chinese/Mandarin at the Lincoln Center campus. Its a superb choice for him, I think.

Sorry about the deferral, Ashling. Its a very tough time to be applying to college, so keep your chin up. Its not you, its the process and the huge numbers of kids applying each year. Tell Fordham how much you want to attend and maybe that will help. Also, make sure your grades are very high this semester as that can be a positive influence on their decision.

Cover your bases with your match and safety schools. Then see what happens in April.

Son got in today!! It was unexpected and soo exciting! He applied reg. but they had him as an early action candidate..and much to our surprise he got his acceptance envelope in today! He is thrilled.....1990/2400...3.0 GPA. Guess they saw his potential!

I think I'm destined not to get into this school. I got deferred in December, and then found out in Jan/Feb that they NEVER got my high school transcript and therefore couldn't judge my application (never notified me when I applied EA). So I sent it in and then just got a letter saying my noncustodial parent financial profile was incomplete so my dad is sending it tomorrow. Guess that will obviously be too late..sigh
