Since the EDII thread is dying off a little bit, I figured we could start off fresh in a new thread for everybody who's been accepted to GW thus far.

Let's post stats, talk about future plans, previous GW experiences, ect...

Hello, I would like to know if I have a good chance of being admitted to GWU. I’ll be applying this fall. I’m visiting this April and will be sure to show that I have a big interest in GW. I’ll also be interviewing in the fall.
My stats:
GPA- W: 3.8
ACT- Comp.24
AP: Lang, Government, Lit, US
EC:
Class secretary for the junior class
Most likely class sec. for senior class also
Editor in chief of school newspaper
National Honor Society
Theatre
Government competition
Co-chair of school’s chapter of Young Democrats of America
Member of Amnesty int.
Orchestra for 4yrs
I’m African American, so I hope that this helps.

I’m really excited about GW! I will be majoring in political communication and I’m thinking about doing a double major in political science. I’ll also be in the University Honors Program.

Has anyone thought about their dorm choices yet? I would love to live in Lafayette but I’m RD so I probably wouldn’t get it.

No Thurston does sound fun! I’m glad someone wants to live there; hopefully that means I won’t have to! I wouldn’t mind parties much but I think it’s waaaay too big for me. I can’t imagine living with six other people!

I think you have a good shot at getting into GW. I also got a 24 on the ACT and I was accepted. Obviously, if you want to be more competitive, take the ACT again and try to bring up your GPA. If GW is your first choice, apply ED! Also the interview REALLY helps you. GW is looking for strong leaders who are passionate about its community. I remember when my cousin interviewed at GW. He really wasn’t feeling it and they could tell. He ended up at College Park. It’s a better fit for him since he likes to be “Big Man on Campus.”

I also suggest that you check out the Multicultural Center at GW. Talk to Michael Tapscott (He’s the Director). They have helped students of color gain admissions with slightly lower averages. He has helped two of my friends.

While it is certainly possible to be accepted today with a 24 ACT if the rest of the application is strong, keep in mind that the middle 50% has been rising over the past 10 years. The bottom 25%ile for accepted students is now 27 or 28.

Kentwoodstudent, if you can raise your score (or perhaps get a higher equivalent on the SAT) your application will be that much stronger. Good luck! You have nice ECs. Definitely interview. Agree about applying ED if it is your first choice and you don’t have to compare financial aid offers.

If you have enough hooks (rural state in the midwest, and/or are a minority/race), you could get in with that low of an ACT.

If you’re Jewish, from NY/NJ, with good but not amazing extracurriculars, and only get a 24 on the ACT, forget it. No chance of getting in with a 24 ACT without a strong hook. For “some reason,” colleges don’t only look at merit and accomplishments. Other hooks (child of alumni, child of endowment/donor, people from very rural areas, foreign countries, minorities), etc. come in to play here. A perfect ACT score and 4.0 GPA if you’re white from the region don’t guarantee admission (though, obviously, a perfect ACT would mean that it’s very likely). Schools want a “diverse” freshmen class and select accordingly. That even means schools don’t often accept too many people who attended the same high school (state/country of origin “diversity”). Get a 24 with a special hook, and you could still get in. See above.
