My son was deferred as well. When we attended an Open House in the Fall, we sat in on presentations in the School of Business. They made it pretty clear that admission to the Business School was quite competitive (seems like the admission rate for Freshmen was somewhere in the 20-40% range). A student can apply to the Business School later and I think those odds were toward the upper part of the aforementioned range. Business School specific classes don't really begin at UCONN until Junior Year, so I would anticipate that the Gen Ed requirements would be the focus for most majors (perhaps with the exception of Engineering students. Congrats on admission - it's getting very competitive at the Storrs campus.

I graduated from uconn bschool in 2007 with an undergrad degree in finance..... aces is not bad... most students start out in aces, and from there figure out what they want to major in.... you need to perform very well in both business math and business calc. courses when you get there... when I was there they were called 105q and 106q..... The bschool looks closely at your performance in those 2 courses... you also need at least a 3.3 to apply internally to the program... 3.5 to play it safe.... the bschool is not easy to get into, even for a current uconn student....
