accepted after being on waitlist

so i got my package today. i was waitlisted but now i'm in :]. i have 2 questions though, first being when will i get my financial package and how hard is switching form bio/premed to architecture?

I don’t think it’s possible to change your major to architecture. That’s one of the hardest majors to get into and they don’t accept very many to the program. I believe last year there were about 70 freshmen in the program. If you want to do this, you should contact admissions immediately to see if it’s even possible.

I disagree. It is quite easy to change. Just tell call PSU or wait till your FTCAP day and let them know.

The restrictions on majors does not come into play until you actually declare your major end of sophomore year. That is when each college looks at your college stats and decides whether to admit you or not to your major preference.

I think Architecture is one of those ‘closed’ type majors. The PSU website says it can only be started at UP, and admission is very selective. They already have up instructions for getting in for Fall 2010.

"Students desiring to be considered for a change of major to architecture must submit a portfolio for review by the faculty of the department of architecture. The following is a complete description of requirements for the portfolio. . . "
[Changing Your Major to Architecture](http://www.arch.psu.edu/howtoapply/change_major.shtml)
To be considered portfolios need to be submitted between January 1 and February 15, 2010. Decisions go out before the end of March.

1moremom- thats after youget to college and declare your major and then decide to switch to arch. They don’t expect you to have a portfolio in HS.

I would just call them and find out for yourself.

I’d be surprised if she could just “switch” into architecture; as cbd said, the program is very selective. Is it possible, cwryan, to switch into the COE or Smeal at FTCAP? A student who was admitted to another college would not necessarily have the numbers to be accepted into those colleges if they had applied there in the first place.

Actually I thought you did have to have a portfolio for arch. coming out of high school. At least I thought I remembered my friend saying that…

Architecture majors do not declare their major at the end of sophomore year. It is different from most of the other majors in that freshman start their major courses the very first semester. There is a sequence of ten studio classes that must be taken in order (so ten semesters). Several years ago there was a summer program for students that wanted to switch to architecture. They took the summer class and the top 5 were selected and permitted to switch to architecture. Although these were students that had already completed 1 or 2 years at PSU, they were considered “first year” architecture majors and had to start with that first studio class. At that point they had to put in 5 additional years to complete the BARCH degree.
