So I was just accepted as a junior transfer from UCSB. I love UCSB. I love the people, the weather, the location, and of course the partying. However, my goal is to eventually break into investment banking after graduation, and unfortunately UCSB doesn't offer nearly as much possibilities as a target school would. My top choice was NYU as a transfer, and I'm not entirely sure if the change from UCSB to USC would really be that big of a jump in academics or prestige?

Is USC considered a target school for investment banks? would be my first question.

secondly, do you think that in terms of academics and prestige, USC really trumps UCSB? or just slightly?

and third, I'm in a fraternity at UCSB that dominates campus... unfortunately I've heard that the same fraternity at USC is horrible...So i guess my question is: would it be hard to be social not being in a top fraternity on campus? and, if any of you generally could rank the best fraternities, it would be appreciated.

thanks

USC is a semi-target and all of the IB’s recruit here from LA/SF and you can get to nyc with a lot of hard work and effort if you really want to but if you want to work on the east coast you should really try to go to nyu instead. USC has a great student org called TIS for people chasing after IB analyst internships which I’d recommend checking out. I’d say UCS definitely trumps UCSB when it comes to IB and Big4 recruiting. As far as being social goes, USC is a very social and diverse school and you can make a ton of friends regardless of whether you’re in a fraternity/sorority or not. Keep in mind you need to concentrate on getting a really high gpa that first semester you’re here as a transfer though for finance recruiting spring semester.

Thanks for the fast reply! I was actually denied from NYU, so USC is my only option so far.

Check out [Trojan Investing Society |](http://www.usctis.com/) as well as their facebook group to see past IB networking events they’ve held. There are an absolutely ton of mid-tier/boutique IB that recruit here also but most people aim for bulge bracket first of course.
