Accepted as a senior?

What the heck does this officially mean?

Background:
I'm a transfer student. I have a LOT of college credits -- many of them could be considered "upper division". Blah, blah, blah, I'll keep this short.
Basically I was accepted to SFSU for a bio major as a senior.

I'm confused because I thought schools required I take a minimum of 60 units at their institution in order to get a degree from there. But, that would mean that I'd be there for 2 years, thus implying I'd be a junior.

So why was I accepted as a senior?
Does this really mean they only require I take ~30 units at the school before I can get my degree? Is this really rare?

I can't find anything about this anywhere online and I'm confused, haha.

They probably transferred only 60 credits for you, making you do some courses again.

You may be classified as a Senior based on the number of transfer credits, but still need to spend a full two years there in order to complete your graduation requirements. Do ask your advisor what Senior status means in your case. It almost certainly means that you have no gen eds left to fulfill, and probably means that you have priority registration so you won’t ever get shut out of classes!
