Accepted as Monroe Scholar

D got the package/admission letter today- very happy and excited about the Tribe! Its a nice touch that she really appreciates to get this news early.

I also go a packet in the mail from W&M today saying that I was accepted as a Monroe Scholar. I was also accepted early to UVA and told myself that if it came down to it, I would chose UVA over W&M. Now my decision becomes tougher…

Congratulations all! FreshtoDeath, we’re glad we made your decision a bit more difficult. We definitely encourage you to attend Monroe Weekend (more information to come about that in a separate letter). It starts when Day for Admitted Students end. Hopefully that will make your decision even tougher :)

Have all the Monroe letters gone out?

For the most part yes, Monroe and W&M Scholar letters were mailed on Tuesday. There may still be a few more as we complete application review but it would be very few.

For those who do not receive a Monroe decision, remember that distinction goes to a small percentage of our applicant pool and admitted student cohort. There’s still much more good news to be released.

DS got his acceptance and Monroe Scholars letter today - still waiting on FA…

Received my envelope today! Sooooo excited!

Got the Monroe letter today. All that’s left is to hear back about the Joint Degree Programme. Hope that goes as well as the rest of my news from W&M.

Congrats to all you guys! To those who have yet to get a decision, good luck! :)

Bummer. No letter today. I was hoping that since she got the likely letter that maybe her app was strong enough to warrant the mini scholarship, and perhaps that would have swayed her enough to keep an open mind since she seems to be leaning heavily away from W&M :(

I applied Early Decision and just got my Monroe letter yesterday. I was probably more excited to hear about Monroe than I was when I found out about my acceptance. Now I have two “One Tribe and Now It’s Yours” folders.

Congrats to all who got your letters today.

kttmom, financial aid awards will be available for online viewing in early to mid-April.

born2dance, decisions on the joint degree programme will be sent when all regular decisions are released if not just a little bit later.

TV4caster, a likely postcard means more good news should be coming. Even if that doesn’t mean a Monroe scholarship it’s still great news! And remember, Monroe letters left our office Tuesday morning so plenty have yet to arrive.

@W&M Admission Yep I know (thanks to a recent post of yours). However, I’ll still be crossing my fingers from now until then ;)

Could anyone who was accepted as a Monroe scholar or who has a son or daughter accepted as a Monroe scholar share their statistics? I know only the top 5-7% are offered the scholarship and that the average SAT score is above 1470, but beyond that…?

numerically:
2330 SAT, 1530 M+CR
3.99 UW GPA, 4.8 W

My D just opened the letter and she was so, so happy. It sounds like a wonderful program and she is very excited. But financial aid will determine whether she can go.

She had 2340 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, took 12 AP classes, awards at statewide Model UN/Youth Leg every year.

I do so hope that every student finds a college that they feel happy about and fits them well. I keep telling my daughter that my college wasn’t my 1st choice, but it ended up being better than any other school could have been. That’s because there was one wonderful, caring professor in the fledgling field of theoretical Computer Science, which was much more fun than what I had planned to do (EE). The handbooks and ratings couldn’t tell me that!
You never know!

Heather

Oh and her M+CR was either 1560 or 1540, can’t remember which.
