Accepted as Undeclared

Hey!

So I got into UCSD as an undeclared major, Revelle college, but I had originally applied as a CS major. Should I take the risk of going to UCSD and transferring into the major later on? Or should I just chose between the two schools where I got into the CS major already? (UIUC or UCI)

What sucked is that the application gave me now hint that the major was impacted…so…yeah :frowning:

Thanks!

You are one of many UCSD applicants that have been accepted as Undeclared and want to switch into CS. From what has been posted so far, it can be done but will be based on your GPA for required courses. A poster @DoctorP has posted the required courses on several other posts, so if you think you can get a 3.8 GPA or higher, then go for it. I personally feel that you should go with the direct admit at UIUC or UCI especially if you are not willing to major in anything else but CS. If you are more flexible with your major, then it may be worth the risk.

Prior to applying, you need to pass four courses: CSE 8B or 11, CSE 12, CSE 15L, and CSE 20 or Math 15A. The odds of getting in vary from quarter to quarter; it’s difficult, but not impossible.

@Gumbymom thank you! I had taken UCSD off my consideration list after i found out about the whole transferring thing, but for some reason it popped back into my mind again :stuck_out_tongue:

There is a thread on Reddit/UCSD “CSE major change request results are out!” in which posters say only those with a 4.0 in all the CSE courses that are required for transferring were accepted this quarter. This was especially difficult because just one A- (3.7) brings the GPA down. In addition to being difficult, I think this would make test taking extremely stressful. In the past few years, students hoping to get CS settled for CS-math, but I hear that that and all math majors are going to be impacted for fall 2016 also.

@BunnyBlue yeah there are going to be a lot of capped majors in the fall

I rather not take that much stress upon myself :stuck_out_tongue:
