Hi, I applied for Mechanical Engineering but was only accepted as Undeclared.
If I decide to go here, how hard would it be for me to transfer into ME??
I'm assuming this means I would begin with my general required classes and then switch later....

same situation here, but I am also accepted to UCSD 1st choice major, UCLA 2nd choice major

UCSB, no choice major (sad…)

Do they just put you into undeclared even if you listed a major? I don’t get why they would do that…anyone know?

See here for changing to engineering:

[Changing Your Major | UCSB College of Engineering](http://engineering.ucsb.edu/prospective_undergraduates/changing_your_major)

Seems like some majors have just a basic GPA requirement, but mechanical engineering appears to be tougher.

^I am ok with that. I plan on going into Chemical or Electrical. Thanks for the link rc251!

"It is currently extremely difficult to change major into Mechanical
engineering at UC Santa Barbara. With over 2000 students who applied for
ME at UCSB for F10, many of those high achieving students were admitted to
undeclared and hope to change major into ME.

Numerous students petitioned to change major into ME this year after taking the
correct preparation courses and only a small fraction were successful.
Students with strong GPAs were turned away due to lack of space."

The engineering office recommended I accept an offer from another university where I got into ME…
