So friend's D had the last laugh. She was rejected at UF in Feb (strong candidate, older sibling attending) and was accepted to her first choice Ivy last night! She will be attending Yale. She is a nice kid, and is not actually taking the last laugh. That's not her personality. But some of us are ;).

Maybe UF perceived that she was applying to UF as a safety and they had their yield rate in mind.

that’s the only explanation, should be a note to not tell UF you are applying to Harvard as well.

shouldn’t matter but yea that’s not fair

UF is very stats oriented and Yale is holistic. Good for her. And Yale has great financial aid!
I don’t think it was yield issues. I know many kids who had early admissions to top schools (Stanford, Yale, MIT) and still were admitted to UF. So I think it was a pure stats thing or something missing from her UF app. I know they had transcript transmission problems.
But who knows with college admissions. It is crazy.

^it is crazy, but I wonder do UF Admissions or colleges in general look at the other schools students apply to, to also help in their decisions? They can easily find out by receiving SAT and ACT scores looking at the score recipients. If so, that’s not good, I never heard an Admission Officer say this.

Nothing to laugh at because UF is superior to the Ivys. This year many were rejected who will be accepted up North.

seems like just a space to apps ratio issue…ufl needs to stop winning sports!!
i don’t remember UF this popular in 2001,02…really though this progresses UF to where schools like Duke stand.

^^^ So you’re saying that UF is comparable to Duke???!!! On what basis?

lol no, it will get there…hopefully then if i get into uf i can say …hey i went to uf

but yea both schools are known somewhat pretty well around the country because of their athletics

Just curious, does girl admitted to Yale attend a public high school or a private prep. Am assuming she goes to school in Florida.

Duke is not really well known for their athletics-at least not compared to UF. Unless they are scrutinized by their inappropriate behavior(cough cough Lacrosse cough).

I don’t detect any sarcasm in this statement. You’re an idiot.

If you judge the worth of a school by its costs that Duke trumps UF. $50,00 is a pretty penny. However in today’s economic climate the prudent choice is to count your blessings and saddle up to the Gator Nation. There is nothing wrong with leaving college debt free and very satisfied.

Invictus8: You are a bit harsh today. See the top post to this thread and you will gleam my reference to laughter. Disparaging comments about UF will not go unchallenged.

Keezy, do you know this for sure.?

I was pretty sure that test results are just electronically sent to each school…I would not think all of the schools get the info on the other schools that you picked to receive reports…

Also, many people get scores sent to different schools as they change their minds thorugh junior and senior years…and don’t send all their results to all of schools they are interested in. I know my daughter’s test score recipients changed, and she did not even end up applying to every school that made its way onto one of her score requests…

This does not seem like a reliable source of information for the schools…Assumptions based on this date could be WAY off.

I’ve heard something like this before and have experienced it myself…

Georgetown, Yale, Northwestern… Yale again… INSANE

I can agree with you,Hurley, that UF is the best economical choice. But I don’t see you arguing about their academics.

UF is so far removed from the IVY it isn’t even funny.

gator nation…lol

this does not surprise me at all to be honest. i know many students from last years graduating class who are attending ivy league or top tier schools and got rejected to UF, yet kids with 8xx SAT scores got accepted to UF. i know i know, its more than just scores, but something has to be done with UF admissions.

my rant is done, thanks, lol. good luck at yale

People academics is the eye of the beholder. Please do not be swayed by the pathetic marketeers and rankers who are transparent self-promoters. The so called elite schools north of the border can not match what UF offers overall. Plus the coeds in Gatorland are top shelf!
