I applied for transfer to both william and mary and university of virginia. I was accepted at w&m but waitlisted at UVA. Can i accept w&m's offer (only a $150 dollar deposit) and wait to hear from UVA? or will this seriously complicate things for me? The dean of my current university must complete a form for my transfer to w&m. all of this is so confusing. I want to transfer but I dont want to loose the opportunity to attend UVA.

Thank you in advance for your advice

As far as I know, you are allowed to deposit at W&M and then later withdraw. You won’t get your deposit back, but I don’t think it will cause any problems.

(I really hope this is correct, because I need to do the same.)

You can deposit at W&M and if you get into UVA, you can withdraw without issues. You won’t get the deposit back though.

Okay! Transfer014 are you an incoming junior? I am worried that my credits will not transfer and I will be stuck in undergrad for an additional semester/ I will be forced to take summer classes. Both universities impose restrictions on how many credits transfer into your major. UVA only accepts a max of 60 credit hours from outside universities.

I’ll be an incoming sophomore. Obviously I don’t know which courses you’ve taken, but maybe call the registrar’s office at W&M and UVA this week and ask them to give you evaluations?

Also, if you’re super interested in UVA, write a letter of interest or something to confirm that and do everything you can to get off the waitlist.

Good luck :)

It’s called double depositing and you should be fine if you do it.

You can put down your deposit and still wait… if you lose your deposit, you lose it, but you’ll then get to go where you really want to go.

I’m doing that now myself. I put down $150 at one school and am waiting on another.

Good luck!
