Hey! I was wondering about the strengths of the bio program at boston college. I’ve been getting mixed reviews about the professors, courses, and program in general? Can anyone clarify?
Also, how strong is the pre-med program?
Is it easy to switch majors?

I would be interested in finding out more info myself, as I’m also planning on doing pre-med. If I do attend BC, I’ll have to take out a bunch of loans so I definitely want to make sure it’s worth it. My guess is that a Bio major here will be very challenging just like anywhere else. One thing I have heard about BC (and I’m hoping I didn’t mix this up with another school) is that they don’t count labs as credits, meaning science majors have to take on an extra class per semester just to gather enough credits to graduate. Hopefully someone can clarify on this.

I know that premed has an 84% accepted rate to medical school depending on whether one can maintain a 3.4 gpa and achieve at least a nine on the MCAT. as for the bio program, the head of the program said at an admitted eagle day that the whole biology department will be experiencing a complete overhaul, and our class will be the first or second class to experience bio in it’s new form. Say what you want about BC bio, but BC is a great school, so I can only assume the bio department is just as good as the rest of the school

eemmzz10 is correct: The bio department just made a bunch of changes to the major, and from what I can tell they are good improvements. The class of '13 has the option to follow the new major or the old one, but the class of '14 will have to follow the new one. The new changes allow Bio majors to pursue their interests in the different areas of biology more, which seems great to me.
