Okay, I know it’s far from decision time but I need help comparing the two school’s pros and cons and whatever information you can give me.
I’ve been accepted to both Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Electrical and Computer Engineering departments (College of Engineering)… recently.
But I’m in such a bind here. I like both schools but they’re vastly different.
IIT-
Right by Chicago
closer to home
smaller population
small social scene
UIUC-
“In the middle of no where”
farther from home
large population
big college town
I’m a female if that matters who aspires to get her bachelor in engineering and an MBA for her masters.
Basically, tell me pros and cons of both and if you were in my situation, which you would pick out of the two. Cost is insignificant right now since they cost the same to me at this stage.

I would go with UIUC. Although, I don't really like huge schools (especially ones with giant greek scenes), UIUC's engineering program is one of the best in the nation. I don't think I could really stand spending my college years in Chicago personally (I live in Evanston). If you want to play the reputation card, I think UIUC engineering would have more prestige nationally, whereas I think most of IIT's prestige lies within Chicago.

i would say go to UIUC, the campus town isnt really half bad. from what i remember, the engineering profs are really cool, and just goin to a big college is awesome and in my opinion a better life experience. besides, like the other two guys before me said, uiuc has a much much better rep. for engineering than IIT. Still your choice, but if it were mine, it'd be uiuc, hands down.

I would pick UIUC without question, which has a far better reputation than IIT (#4 vs #56 in US News). IIT may be in Chicago, but it is located in a ghetto neighborhood a few blocks from the projects.

If there's a chance you'll switch majors to something less technical, UIUC offers a lot more options than IIT. For example, it has an excellent accounting program.

On the other hand, the students I knew from IIT were a lot more serious about their studies. Many of them work in addition to attending college. Of course, there are many hard-working, serious students at UIUC, but there is also a group of kids that are more interested in parties than studies. This isn't as much of a problem after freshman year, because a lot of them don't return.

I also live in Chicago and have been to UIUC and IIT.

IIT is very "geekish" atmosphere, but academically stimulating at the same time. Its true it is located in the ghetto right across the streets are projects but they are not dangerous at all.

UIUC sits 35 minutes from Bloomington, ILL (biggest town in that area). They study hard and play hard (seriously). From a male perspective they have a lot of beautiful women (but ur a female so i guess that doesnt matter). However, the engineering school is one of the best in the nation and its nice quaint town not in the ghetto.

Both are very good. But, I would probably choose UIUC over IIT just because its more of a "college" environment.

Hehe, no one has said IIT yet. Yikes. I guess UIUC does have a pretty strong repuation here and elsewhere.

Yeah I think I woudl like to get the entire college experience :) right now I'm leaning UIUC but will wait until the final package comes out (tuition-aid)

Anyway to get other people's feedback who are in or have been in UIUC's engineering program? I'm curious how it is. I hear that the professors try to flunk half of their class.

I will be attending UIUC and I've been to the campus, its HUGE for a little town its the biggest campus in Illinois I think.. And best of all it feels like you're actually going to a college. Unlike many schools, IIT for instance, its student are mostly commuters, they are serious all the time, no partying, women aren't as pretty, not outta state students. As for UIUC, 12% are from outta state. Some of the most beautiful people from the midwest go there. They party like crazy too, while doing excellent academically. I suggest you visit the campus first, you willl just fall in love with it!

Mr. Patel, I'm more concerned about the men, haha. :D IIT does have lots of out of state students, actually most of the graduate students there are out of state. IT took me a long time to find someone in state. I will visit UIUC probably pretty soon :)

Well I'm just right now concerned about the fact that UIUC is in the .. almost.. middle of nowhere. How is it in connections with the business in Chicago or elsewhere, on a daily basis or not and what are they like?
