Son was accepted but placed on FA wait list. Anybody have experience with this? I assume this is a better position to be in than not being accepted and being placed on the general wait list or declined. I guess we’re just waiting to see if trickle down occurs when accepted students with FA move on to other schools.
Trying to wrap my head around the school accepting him but WLing him for FA. They have basically counted him as a bed space.
What school was that? I’ve never heard of it before.
Is your child an int’l?
This is an odd position because on May 1st, you can only hold one acceptance plus waitlists. But you don’t have a WL, you have an acceptance. So, you’d have to decline on May 1st not knowing whether the FA had ever gone thru.
Cushing, should have clarified prep school. Not int’l
Moving to the Prep School forum.
Cushing knows perfectly well that your student cannot attend without FA - so they have not “counted him as a bed space." Presumably, all they need to know by May 1 is whether or not you want to stay on the FA waitlist. If you have no other options, your answer should be an unequivocal “yes”!
At that point, there’s no predicting. It’s entirely possible (not probable, but possible) that FA funds will come available sometime over the summer. If that happens, they’ll call and ask if you’re still interested. If, by then, you’ve already made other plans, you just say, “Thanks, but no thanks” and they move on down their list to give the good news to someone else.
Seems like their method is providing a spoonful of sugar by offering an acceptance, and as @dodgersmom said, knowing full well a student who applied for FA may not be able to attend without FA. In your opinion, is this position still better than being on a ‘general’ waitlist? If beyond 1 May we will be saying yes
