Accepted but for different major

My S was accepted at UT Austin but not for his first choice. He applied to the business school but was accepted at the college of liberal arts which was not even his second choice. Does this mean that he woundn't have any chance to switch his major from like History or Econmics to Business?

Contact the college immediately. Admissions may have made an error.

My son had this happen at another public university. He e-mailed the department for which he applied. It took a few weeks, but they straightened things out.

EllenF,

Thanks. I will have my son e-mail the admissions office immediately.

This happens very often at UT, and it is not a mistake. Students who apply at the Business School but are not accepted at the Business School are typically accepted as Liberal Arts Majors. The Business School will accept internal applications, but only in subsequent years.

The school is not known to be very open to discuss its admissions' decisions.

The Office of Admissions makes the decisions on freshman and external transfer applicants. The McCombs School of Business makes decisions regarding Internal Transfer Admissions. The McCombs School can only give historical and required coursework (transfer) for admissions and major information.

Please read <a href="http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/udean/admissions/internal.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/udean/admissions/internal.asp</a></p>

The chances for internal transfers are pretty good:

Internal Transfer Historical Summary

Year Applications Admitted Acceptance Rate

2002 369 239 65%
2003 464 304 66%
2004 374 307 82%
2005 466 319 68%

xiggi,

Thanks for the info.
