Hi everyone.. I am an international student and i've been accepted into UNH with a presidential scholarship. My SAT I score was 2180, SAT II 2400, excellent grades and lots of extracurriculars. I didn't get into any of my top choice places (I'm putting it down to the fact that i need a full ride and all my choices were need aware for internationals). I may get another scholarship from UNH and I think that, along with the presidential scholarship, will be enough to cover my fees and living expenses. I wanted to know three things
a) How is UNH academically? I plan to major in physics and want to know if the staff are competent. And are there smart kids who study or is it just one big party school?
b) What's the social life like? I've heard there is a drug and smoking culture but is it really that prevalent? I don't really want to end up smoking pot instead of studying..
c) How's the housing and food?
Thanks in advance and I'd appreciate it if UNH students/teachers post replies :D

I am not completely sure how amazing the physics department is, but UNH is a worl reknown school academically. UNH staff is always usually competent and very intelligent, so I wouldn’t worry about academics. Especially with how the economy is doing, you will be seeing a lot more very smart people going to state schools because they can’t afford the private schools. I have similar statistics to you and I will most likely end up at UNH because I can’t afford the other schools I got into. You’re definitely going to get a good mix there.

Smoking and drinking is as available as you want it to be. UNH definitely likes to party, but it’s very easy to head to the library or dorm to study or chill out.

The housing is decent. There are a couple freshmen dorms that aren’t very attractive, but most dorms are pretty nice, especially when you become a sophomore or junior the housing is great. As for the food, they just won a national award for their food, so I’m guessing it’s pretty good. I’ve never had it, but I know there is a lot of variety.
