I was accepted to the two schools I applied but, no financial aid. I probably will not be able to go.

That is sad. This happened to my son two years ago; he reapplied last year (for the same grade) and got in with the aid he needed. Do not give up....try again!
Do you mind sharing the names of the schools?

It's still better that being waitlisted.

or rejected (actually not really). It's pretty much having a huge chocolate cake in front of you but you can't eat it because of a diet.

It's true. So that's why i think it's better to be rejected than being waitlisted or accepted without FA

I know what u mean. I mean its like having to say you could ALMOST attend a certain school where as for me I could have been far
from acceptance

ugh i know how you feel.
i was so nervous coming home today to check the mail because i thought i wouldnt get in any where. well i opened my mailbox and i saw a big envolope and i started freaking out. i opened it and i saw i got accepted into one school. i was so excited and i started screaming. lol. but then i read the whole letter and it was like "sorry but we could not give any financial assistance" i was so mad.

beter than being on the waitlist for $$$ reasons

yeah, i got accepted on Saturday and after screaming, i flipped the page to realize i "did not qualify"

really fun...
not.

i got in with no FA so i will probably not be able to go

*. This happened to my son two years ago; he reapplied last year (for the same grade) and got in with the aid he needed. *

My understanding is that this doesn't happen unless financial circumstances change. Is that so in your case?

if I don't get FA at Exeter I din't thin kI will be able to go.....................and its my first choice!!!!!!!!

don't think * oops I am typing too fast! lol

Not sure what you mean, laxtaxi. He was admitted the first year, but turned down the spot because we didn't get any fa. It wasn't that we didn't qualify, it was just that the school didn't have enough money to give him what he needed. You would run into trouble if you accepted the spot, found a way to pay (i.e. a large loan), then wanted to apply for fa the following year.
Our circumstances were pretty much the same the following year.

is FA determined by the boarding school formula only, or are there special endowments, etc. for recruited athletes, musicians, etc....any info would be helpful....

I got FA at my top school...yay!

wow that sucks i'm sorry. at least you have the comfort of knowing you got in i guess

If you are admitted but waitlisted for financial aid AND that school is your first choice, then be sure to write a letter to the director of financial aid telling him/her that you will attend if money becomes available. You should also inquire about why type of alternative financing is avilable - schools sometimes have good loan programs but that only helps if your family needs a smaller amount of financial help. Good luck...

Those would have to be considered merit aid awards, not financial aid. Some schools do have merit aid programs. That said, any school or college that claims not to take into consideration what a child will bring to the campus (scholastically, athletically, musically, a connection to a certain feeder school) when determining financial aid awards is not telling the truth. There are always more qualified students with need than there is money and it has to be allocated by some criteria.
