Accepted, but not going to UCSD

I was recently accepted to UCSD ERC college. As an engineering student, one without all the prereqs completed, I have to take many classes to graduate. Unfortunately, I was accepted to the college that does not accept IGETC for GE's. This will most assuredly add an extra quarter of attendance for me.I am looking to transfer to either Warren or Marshall. Preferably Warren. I have already put in my request to change--but to no avail. Here is the message I got when I sent in my request to switch colleges.

" For newly admitted Fall Transfer students, we maintain a list of college change requests and facilitate those that we can accommodate on a one-on-one basis as space permits. That is, if a student from Thurgood Marshall College is requesting a change to Muir College and another transfer student from Muir College requests a change to Thurgood Marshall, we would be able to change their colleges laterally."

I was hoping there may be some CC'ers out there that are not going to attend UCSD anyways and would be willing to send in a request to change from Warren or Marshall into ERC. There is no commitment to submit the SIR upon a successful request. Does any future Bruin, Golden Bear, or Anteater who got accepted to Warren want to help me out? If so, PM me and I will give you the e-mail (and what you need to put in it) to send your request into.

Thanks in Advance

P.S. The more the merrier because it just increases the odds that my request gets granted.

It doesn’t have to translate to an extra quarter; you still need to two two writing classes upon transfer to SD for Muir and Warren (Warren is debated since the website and assist are kind of contradicting each other). You have to take three writing courses: Making of the Modern World; it’s just one class a quarter for three quarters. Unless you’re completely filling up all your time with pre-reqs, which i doubt since some pre-reqs need to be taken in series, you’ll be fine.

It may not take you longer, but you’ll be taking more classes per quarter. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s how I see it. It shouldn’t affect you too much.

Thank you for you assistance, however, I know the situation I am faced with much better than you and have already mapped it out. Plus, ERC also requires two upper-division regional specialization classes. That brings the total number of GE’s to five. Three MMW classes and the two regional specializations.

Also for Warren, http://warren.ucsd.edu/academics/warren-writing/transfer.html</a>
I have completed IGETC so I wouldn’t have to take the Warren writing. I would only be required to take three GEs of my choice outside of engineering, science, and math.

The assist documents say you need to take writing regardless of IGETC (like i said, it’s really weird).

I’m not sure about the two upper divs, but I guess you would know that better.

UChopeful2010 is correct, Warren does not require you to take the writing classes as a Transfer student, just the 3 upper division classes that are outside the division of your major. I haven’t made my decision yet, but if I do decide not to attend UCSD, I will let you know asap.

Thank you. It is very much appreciated.

Is there anyone else out there willing to help out a fellow CCer?

UChopeful: UCSD will call you to change colleges. It takes a while but I got a college change from Revelle to Sixth. It’s possible…just wait a while… I know it sucks but they will eventually call you.

How long after you put your request in did they call you?

i got into Marshall at UCSD, if i get into UCB, i will put in a request to change to wherever one of u asks me to.

About one month after I e-mailed… I told them in the e-mail that if I stayed at Revelle…I would have to do another year at UCSD and that I want to double major. The e-mail bascially said that I had no idea what I was doing when I chose the college order on my app and I apolgized for that. I wrote a nice letter that was borderline begging to switch colleges.

I’ve called many times and wrote a few e-mails, but they seem pretty adamant about the one to one switch.

Good luck. It worked for me… I hope everything works out for you UChopeful.

Thank You Rwasko. Are you going to be attending UCSD?
