Accepted but not going

It's all been a dream. From the first day I saw some fine pictures of Middlebury campus (with beautiful people in it) and till the time I decided to apply, I never knew I would admitted there. Well, as an average SAT'ier, little did I know I would be accepted at MIT too. Neither did I ever dream that one day, I would be deciding between Yale, MIT, Middlebury and some other top notch colleges. Therefore, I have to let go part of my dream for the sake of reality.
Dont know if I'm making much sense, but I have to let Middlebury pass by as a dream, and face MIT as a reality. So any other like myself out there?
Let's use this thread to express ourselves (and probably shed a few tears, <sobs>).</sobs>

I feel for u man! I also had to let go of the Middlebury dream in favour of Cornell. By the way, just to be curious, what WERE your SAT scores?

Chris, Bashir:

If Middlebury was a dream for both of you why are you giving it up? Is it for the prestige factor of MIT? Is it because you both have specific goals or interests that can only be attained at Cornel or MIT? I would be interested to know why the change of heart.

i'm sort of in the same boat... i've loved midd since day one, but after i went to the Carleton admit weekend, my plan turned upside down! now midd will have to beat out carleton, instead of the opposite. we'll see how the accepted students day is at midd, but i sure do like Carleton...

what about the COLD at Carleton-------it beats out Middlebury

I too have had to make some really tough decisions although mine have been a little different. Middlebury IS my dream school and I got waitlisted, so I've been trying to figure out where I belong. But one thing I'm sure of: as cheesy as it sounds, everything works out for the best in the end.

Congrats on all of your acceptances, and I wish you all the best of luck in your decisions.

I got into some amazing schools: Macalester, Dartmouth, Middlebury, and Georgetown. Once I got in, it was easy to narrow my list down to Georgetown and Middlebury. They're even in that they both have phenomenal language programs. But one is rural and the other is urban. One is very homogenous and the other is...less. One would be great for me now and the other would be great for later on. And even though I'm about to visit Middlebury this Sunday, I know that deep down, Georgetown is probably where I should be.

However, if Middlebury completely blows me away, then maybe I'd willing to take that chance.

-Deion S.

curious chris :), my last SAT score agg is 2070.
I gave Middlebury up for MIT cos my ultimate career goal is engineering and wherever I go for undergrad, I'll still later apply to places like MIT for grad in engr. So, why not go there now and make the whole process easier?

Middlebury > Carleton

Midd is known as the home of the beautiful people. Carelton is known as the home of ugly people.

Really tough choices between great schools, but I've decided to accept Amherst's offer.

Good luck to everyone, wherever you end up. May it be -- or become -- the school of your dreams.

really really tough decision, but in the end i think it's best for me to get out of Vermont (as much as i love it here...!) i'll be at Vassar next year unless i get off the WL at wesleyan. good luck everyone! congrats on all of these fabulous acceptances!

I'm deciding between Midd and Carleton too, and leaning towards Carleton...gellino's comment kind of represents what I see as the bad side of Midd, it seems like the people there are a lot more image-conscious. And by the way, when I was at Carleton I actually saw a lot of good-looking people.
