So I was just accepted with a dean scholarship of 10,000 per semester. However, I am also a national merit finalist. I see on nu’s scholarship page that they offer a scholarship of up to 30k for finalists. How would that work? Would I receive both scholarships or only the higher one? Thanks to everyone in advance
I think you have to designate NU as your first choice with the National Merit people by a certain date, but the award would replace your Dean’s Scholarship, not add on top of it.
I received notification that Northeastern wanted to verify my financial aid with a tax return copy with my acceptance. How long will this take and does this mean I’m not going to get scholarships?
Idk about you but my scholarship page was separate from my financial aid. There are two different options to view both
Thank you! The website says “up to $30,000”. How do they determine how much I will receive? Because if they offer me 30k a year I will definitely go. I’m still on the edge with 20k rn.
@yeeezussss Most get the full 30K, though it is unclear what the exact situations that don’t get 30K are. If NEU would be your #1 with that merit, I would designate them #1 for sure.
One parent, @binky17 , recently posted that his student received the full $30,000 after designating Northeastern as their first choice.
Have any other NMFs who applied early not yet heard from Northeastern regarding this up to 30,000 scholarship? We have not yet been informed.
Did you select NEU as your school with NMS?
Yes, NEU has been listed for NMS for more than a month. Was accepted early action and granted a dean’s scholarship.
Call the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and find out what your status is @heidoscop
In case anyone was still interested, I contacted my nu financial counselor today and he told me that ,most likely, not everyone will receive the full 30k but he told me I will definitely receive higher than my original scholar of 20k. He said he isnt for sure though because this info was above his pay grade
Did he give you a reason why? Are you qualified for financial aid from NEU that would cut into that?
I’m receiving 5500 in loans for financial aid but I will most likely decline it. He said “the system has changed and its above my pay grade so I can’t say anything for sure” he didn’t give any solid reasoning but I have my hopes high for receiving the full 30k
We confirmed with the FA & admission counselor o Friday.
If you are NMF and admitted as Honor status, then you are getting $30K/yr.
If you are only NMF and not getting in as Honor (like my D), then it will be $25K/yr.
And it does replace the dean scholarship, my daughter also got $20K/yr like you, but didn’t get into Honor.
Is this for sure? Because on the welcome day I spoke to the head of the financial aid office, James slatter I think was his name, and he said that he hasn’t heard of students receiving less than 30k but he cannot guarantee anything until the package is out. He didn’t mention anything about the honors and not honors and neither did my FA counselor
