Hello. Today I got my acceptance letter sent to me from Cornell's school of industrial and labor relations. But in my letter it said that my admission is made with the condition that I attend the prefreshmen summer program. The thing is that I am not in the eop program. Is it because I'm not as qualified as other admitted students or something along those lines?

Yeah most likely Cornell is telling you to attend PSP [pre-freshman summer program] because you’re gonna need some help to catch up on coursework before beginning.

Feel free to contact them and ask for more of an explanation though!

Yes I got that too for the Hotel School. You don’t have to be in the EOP program to get selected for it, but everyone in the EOP program IS selected for it.

I believe it’s for the applicants who are weaker academically, although Cornell won’t say that haha. I don’t mind it…I think the head-start will be very beneficial for me. Plus they cover all costs

Congrats on your acceptance!

I guess so. Kind of makes me feel bad though. Congrats on your acceptance!

Congratulations. Don’t feel bad. I’m sure it’s more a reflection on your high school than you as a person. Cornell wants you to succeed so if there is some gap in your education, they don’t want you starting off behind.

I kind of figured since my high school isn’t necessarily the brightest out there. Did you get accepted as well?

Lilshaun and MIkeyc765 where are you from?

I’m from Florida cornellwanna. You?

I’m from upstate NY. My school has a good reputation and frequently sends students to Cornell. I graduated from Cornell last year.

the pre-frosh program is designed to acclimate students to college who may not have been exposed to some aspects of college - whether studying, independent living or whatever. Many of the students are first gen applicants.

Please do not take it as an insult, but see it as a gift to help you succeed. You will make friends and learn your way around campus before the other freshmen get there.

I graduated 35 years ago and I wish I had had that opportunity!

Don’t feel bad at all. You are so lucky to be up in Ithaca for the summer and having this time to get aquainted with your surroundings and meet other students. I would have loved it if my sons had this experience. Congratulations on your acceptance!

Celebrate your fine accomplishment! You have earned it. Cornell saw something in you that they wanted and that is why they accepted you! You will love having the head start to college this summer. Congratulations to you on your acceptance.

Lilshaun:

Look at it this way – there was something in your application that stood out and led the admissions committee to say you should be admitted. By admitting you, they are saying that in their belief you are smart enough to successfully do the work. You can view this as a compliment.

However, from what you say, they think your skills could use some polishing. This, I think is to Cornell’s credit. Instead of rejecting people who might not have had certain opportunities Cornell is saying that they will bring up your skills so you can perform academically to your potential.

Besides – Ithaca is a great place to spend the summer!!!
