i got accepted to penn state altoona (i know nothing about this campus, i just put it as a second choice at random). I wanted to go to UP but in my acceptance letter all it says is that most people start at other campuses and transfer to UP, and that this year they arent admitting many poeople to UP directly. Furthermore, they said i got accepted to the smeal school of business, but at altoona (?)
my question is, is it anything good to still get into smeal, but at another campus?
And is it worth to go to altoona and then transfer to UP?
Im really bummed out here, i dont know anything about altoona...

Congrats on your acceptance to PSU! I really don't know anything about Altoona except that when the kids talk they always say Altoona's the second best campus. Smeal is very good. A friend's son graduated from Smeal last year (and the honors college) and has an awesome job in NYC. Paid enough that he has his own apartment in financial district. You should enjoy smaller classes and better opportunities to get to know yoiur teachers.
Also if you use your AP credits you might have the possibility of getting into UP a year sooner. Call and ask them this.

that might be good cuz ive gotten two fours and a three on some of my APs so i might get a little credit...is it guaranteed that i will get into UP after 2 years cuz im already in smeal, or do i have to like get amazing gpa and stuff?

I believe there is a gpa cut off but not sure what it is. The average gpa at PSU is 3.0 for what thats worth. You might also let them know how much you want to be in at UP because many accepted kids will end up at other colleges come May. Can't hurt to be proactive.

how do you recomend i contact them to let them know i really wnat to go to UP?

i'm in the same boat.. accepted to altoona into smeal but ive already decided to go elsewhere..sucks for PSU i woulda made a kick-ass student haha

do you know what frustrates me, I got my acceptance letter to PSU-Altoona, after applying for main and trying to get in summer, I find out on-campus housing is all filled up. I talked to admissions and got no where. I don't think it's fair that when I submitted my app early September that I get shut out of on campus housing just because it took them so long to make a decision. If they were so sure that it was just altoona for me, then why couldn't they have told me early December when a lot of other people heard so I could get my housing deposit in. So now my choices are off campus, where i'd really prefer not to be my first year or go somewhere else. I think I will just go some where else, their loss

where you headed senior 07?

yep, alot of this is not "fair" especially on the timing of issues you've noted, bear. Where to then for you?

I could've sworn that all freshmen are guaranteed housing, and have to use it, bear. At least that's what they say whenever they discuss freshman housing.

all freshmen housing is guaranteed, however the other years are not at psu especially univ park

yes that is what I thought too but if you go to the Altoona site it says they are not accepting housing contracts from new 07-08 students, that housing is full.

I thought housing was only guaranteed for first-year UP students. I'm not sure about the other campuses.

whistle pig- im going to sacred heart university in fairfield CT:)

Good luck, all the best. Sorry PSU didn't work for you. Fairfield is a nice place too.

I'm really nervous, I hear all this about no available housing anymore at Altoona... I applied Sept 28th and still have not heard anything from Penn State. University Park was my first choice, Altoona was my 2nd... I guess we'll see what happens by this thursday. I did call them last week and they said they have received everything and I shuold hear by jan 31st
