Hi guys,
I got accepted by UCB for the College of letter and science and they will not accept Partial IGETC nor do they allow students to take summer class to finish the IGETC. By the way, I was admitted for 2016 Fall.I was just told by my Community College that I was not able to have full IGETC.
The class that I took for Area 3B in 2014 was not met the criteria for the years after 2010. I know it is all my fault and I overlooked the requirements. But I am not able to accept that my admission will be rescind without doing anything.
It seems like that it is possible for admission to extend the deadline for me by summer 2016 to finish the IGETC. How should I persuade admission to giving me the chance? Do you guys think it is possible?
Contacting UCB would be the most important step here. Just be as honest as possible and tell them the situation.
I know you’re going to through an emotional roller coaster and I am sorry to hear about your situation. If UCB is saying that they do not accept partial IGETC nor do they allow you to take the course in the summer then there is little you can do. If you say something in the lines of “I didn’t know the requirement changed” they will respond by telling you “You shouldn’t have waited this long to speak to your counselor.” I was in a similar situation but my counselor caught the discrepancy in the Fall(When I was applying) and said you can add your grade down the road(After the course was done). I hope that UCB will give you the benefit of the doubt but these type of cases occur quite often and they’ve heard it all. Your best bet is to reapply in the Fall. Regardless, best of luck, I hope it works out for you.
Definitely report it through the transfer academic update asap and fully explain the situation. Someone recently posted on the 2018 transfer Facebook page about partial IGETC; he was one class away from fulfilling IGETC. He got a response back from an admission officer and they said it would be okay and that he could make it up in the summer with a grade B or better. So, don’t lose hope because it’s possible! It’s on a case by case basis. Best of luck!
The only thing you could try is that the advisor didn’t alert you to the problem until it was too late. Not sure if that will help or not. Good luck.
