Hi! I'm OOS and have a 1940 SAT (700 cr, 630 Math, 610 writing), 800-WH, 750-lit, 740-Bio, 3.83 UW GPA (don't know my UC GPA)

I was accepted by UCLA but today, I've been rejected by Santa Barbara, San Diego, and maybe even Irvine.

In UC Berkeley though, I saw my name in a directory list that didn't include all applicants. The names of the "admitted freshmen"(we think) at this moment has been erased just 3 hours ago. We got caught. :)

So, is it possible to really be accepted by UCLA and maybe(really maybe) UC-Berkeley but be rejected by the other UCs? Thoughts on this?

It happens all the time. It’s called “holistic” review, which puts more weight on a number of outside factors. The other UCs review your application solely based on your stats.

actually, all UC schools are doing a holistic approach to the application process now. i called ucsd today and they told me they weren’t using the point system this time around.

@tqle93 – wait really UCSD didn’t use the point system this year??? then why did they still have that up on their website? well i guess that explains quite a lot

Those stats definitely should’ve been strong enough for Santa Barbara and Irvine.

It is proven to be possible… and you of all people should know this since you’ve proved it haha!

It’s definitely rare for someone to be accepted into UCLA but rejected at lower UCs, that’s without a doubt. However, I wouldn’t dwell on why UCLA accepted you and why the others rejected you. Just take the acceptance and be happy. =)

the UCLA adcom who read your app was probably wasted at the time.
Jk, UCLA’s holistic (less than Cal though) unlike the other UC’s (aside from Cal). Wait so you saw your name on the list of admitted freshman?? The 24th can’t come soon enough…In the end, who cares, forget SB, Irvine, and watever, UCLA’s better in academics, awesomeness, and D-1 sports, etc. Come on would you rather get into SB, Irvine, etc. and get rejected by UCLA or would you rather have your situation? Def. your situation! Congrats man!! :)

@neezkg, yeah, maybe I’m really one of the handful of applicants who has experienced this but in this case, being rejected by other UCs wouldn’t be a downer----- after all, if I have UCLA, who needs 'em?? I was just really curious

@Radtomato, Yeah! I saw my name on the directory yesterday and I was even the first to notice that our names were erased! Go to the Cal thread and read the posts there about “Early Acceptances?”. If it’s acceptance, well I’ll be really surprised and dumbfounded as I’ll have both UCLA and Cal (another rare occurrence?) while getting dumped by all other UCs. You’re right though that my situation is definitely great considering I got accepted to UCLA (even if I really ask myself how now! hahahaha). Thanks!

you answered this in the first sentence. you are OUT OF STATE and thus cannot compare yourself to instate students. If you were instate, I would assure you that you would be accepted to those schools. dont worry about your rejections.

hahahaha, I was recently waitlisted by NYU and rejected by BC, which I think are less selective than UCLA and Cal, so now, with other schools’ decisions coming, I’m not expecting the expected anymore- safety or not :)

@golden, well using statistics, you have a higher rate of acceptance to the UCs than me :)))) I applied to all and I was only accepted by two UCs +Merced :))
