My daughter received her acceptance letter today for the school of Arts and Sciences class of 2018. It was such a nice surprise as we werent expecting to hear anything until late September, early October. Pitt is her first choice so we wont have to worry about doing any other applications.

Congrats!! That is really early!

Good news for your daughter. I’m already accepted too and like Pitt, but money will be a consideration since I am OOS. Looks like they are getting acceptances out EARLY this year. At the end of this thread there are a few others who speak of acceptances for 2018already!

Is your daughter really not going to apply anyplace else…no stretch schools?

HSG

I am the “daughter”. And no. I am not planning to apply to any stretch schools. I feel it to be a waste of time considering I got into Pitt(where I initially wanted to go) and with my scores and grades, I feel I don’t really have a chance at somewhere like CMU or clearly any Ivy League school. Even if I got into a better school, we’d have to pay double what we’d be paying at Pitt.

Vwoznia: You are lucky to be done with the college application madness. I envy you!

HSG

Hey, when did you apply? I applied last week, so I am anxiously waiting for my letter! And congratulations!

Congratulations Robinsongirl! And to your daughter! I never heard of Pitt accepting this early. Maybe they have changed their strategy. You and your daughter are so lucky you have this out of the way. Pitt is a great school!

Thanks so much for the congratulations. We are very happy. She applied in late July. She was working on her supplemental information (essay, references and EC resume) when we got the acceptance in the mail. It was totally unexpected. But such a relief and so nice to be finished with the application process. Someone else at her high school also was accepted to Pitt but to the school of engineering so maybe they are starting earlier this year.

I wonder if Pitt is trying to up their yield? It must be very tempting for those accepted so early to forgo other applications. However it bodes less well for those applying later.

I applied in late July too and did send an essay in with my application. I heard back in early August.
Most of the folks I know are doing rolling admissions school application this weekend. Along with Pitt, CWRU is said to be another fairly good school with a super easy application.

The real work comes with the common application schools that require lots of supplemental essays, as they are tough. A friend told me Univ. of Chicago has very difficult essays. He is doing rolling applications for Pitt and some other schools as a safety measure only.

HSG

My son applied in mid July and got his acceptance two weeks ago. He’s Arts & Sciences plus Honors College - we’re hoping for some scholarship $$ but haven’t heard anything about that yet.

I was accepted into the business school last week after applying at a late July tour/info session. I’m from NY and hoping to get a large merit scholarship in the mail soon :)

My daughter was accepted early as well (Engineering) and I heard from a few different people- from this discussion board and locally, that getting an acceptance early (before end of Sept./beg. of Oct. timeframe) typically indicates you have a greater chance of a merit scholarship but since then, it seems so many are getting early acceptance that I’m starting to wonder if Pitt is simply sending out notifications as they review the apps rather than waiting til Oct. for some?

As southestmom indicated, they must be upping their yield, which I’ll admit made my daughter tempted to not complete other applications (she has 2 done including Pitt, and accepted at both thus far, with potentially 3 more to complete) but since we’re OoS, I told her she needs to finish those others because even if Pitt is her first choice now, unfortunately cost does play a factor. Her scores and GPA are good as well as all her EC’s and essay but so are hundreds of other students I’m sure.

For all those who got accepted to the Class of 2018…congrats to all of you. I had a quick question: did you guys submit your transcripts, sat/act scores as well? Because I just submitted my application, but did not submit GPA, scores, et al. Will i receive some feedback from the school or will they wait till they received these numbers? Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks all.

/\ Befrank2014 - You have to submit all the required pieces - Application, HS transcripts, test scores. I believe the supplemental essay is optional (can’t recall) but as a general rule, you should always submit optional stuff too… especially essays because it’s another opportunity for the admission officers to get to know you better.

Hmm…our counselor said that she will send the transcripts, and recs only after the third week of September…so I guess we just wait…

Congrats to those already accepted! Can those accepted please post their stats?

In response to woods1234, I was accepted to the business school and the guaranteed MBA graduate school program with:
36 ACT, 96%(4.0) UW, most rigorous courses.

On a different note, does anyone know when scholarship notices should be coming out/has anyone received info regarding scholarships yet?

Scholarship committee only meets once a week on Fridays so it can take a few weeks to a few months to hear back. However, being a guaranteed grad student, you should be seeing some money IMO.

Out of curiosity, did any of you receive a message that your application was “complete”? I’m getting mixed info with regard to this. Daughter sent application and transcript which were checked off when she logs in on their website; they also indicated they rec’d. her letters of recommendation (2) and her essay. Everything was rec’d. as of August 27, and it appears people are finding out pretty early. We’re hoping to hear back soon, but just wondering about the “complete” message. Thanks.
