yes, I remember that GSM. they’re all good schools.

@GraniteStateMom- although anyone can participate, they state that 20% of incoming freshman are truly qualified to be a part of it, and that those accepted into honors in their decision letter can apply for honors housing and counseling, among other benefits.

jkeil - good memory! And I agree, they are all good schools with many excellent programs - it’s hard for students to decide which to apply to. It will be even more difficult for many to make the final decision of where to attend. But as I believe ogirl pointed out, at least that’s a good problem to have :)

Humanity - ??? Are you talking about Pitt’s honors program?

@GSM- yep! It’s an open program, meaning that anyone can choose honors classes, but being accepted to it as a freshman gives you additional benefits. I think it was in the pamphlet they mailed about honors.

Congrats to those accepted to Pitt Nursing. My daughter got a letter asking for mid-year grades. Her superscore SAT is 1850 with a GPA 3.92 (many honors and AP classes). Her mid -year average is 4.2. What are her chances? I am not optimistic because of the SAT.

collegemom115, I really don’t think the SAT is going to be a problem. The avg Pitt SAT over the years is about 1900. There could be a problem if the CR or M is unusually low, but otherwise your daughter has a good shot at admission. They may be a bit worried about the number of AP courses or how she did in them–your d’s 4.2, is that on a 5.0 scale? Are you in-state?

if i was told they need my first semester grades, any idea around when I would hear back? My grades are being sent out from my school either today or tomorrow

Does anyone know when letters come in? I just recently applied.
And does anyone know my chances at getting in?

All honors classes since freshman year.

Total of 9 AP Classes. (4 Jr year, 4 sr year)

ACT 26; SAT 1680

GPA: 3.8 ~ Weighted; 3.2 unweighted

ECs: 3 years of Choir (Tenor section leader) - won 2 awards, 1 year of Varsity Lacrosse, 1 year of Indoor Track, 1 year of Track and Field, 1 year of Yearbook.

I have gotten a few D’s. (4) and one F.

Wrote the optional essay and got a letter of recommendation.

Thanks!

I’m just one opinion, okay, but your scores are certainly low for Pitt. The GPA is a little low, and it’s hard to tell how low the SAT but Pitt averages like a 1920. The D’s and one F hurt. I’m thinking you’re not likely to get in.

Just got my acceptance today!!

Im extremely surprised since I had a low GPA/scores + Asian OOS and got in… BUT I had really strong extracurriculars and a bunch of AP’s (10) so I think thats what helped me.

@justwannagetinn
Congrats on getting in!
Do you know how long it took for them to give you a decision? And was it through email first?

Thanks! It took a little lass than a month. And no I didnt get an email.

Belated response, but it is still valuable for those still waiting

is there any way to check financial aid status?

Is there anything pertinent on the admissions page for accepted students? Other schools where D has been accepted have log in pages with info on their financial aid, scholarships, etc, but this seems to be a generic page. Is there any link I should be clicking on that will bring us to anything unique for her? There isn’t even a congratulations message (She was definitely accepted tho
Just curious.

yeah i am wondering about the same thing. is there any protal we can log in to check the financial aid? Is submitting fafsa all we need? i ask this because othet schools want me to send verification stuffs like tax transcripts.

Accepted into the School of Arts and Sciences, after originally applying for the Swanson School of Engineering. Their school of engineering is full, so they offered me a spot on the wait list. However, i could also choose to accept an offer of admission from the school of A&S, so I did. I will have to take and maintain a 2.75 gpa in prerequisite courses that I would have to anyways to gain an engineering major so it seemed like a no brainer to me! Very excited!

Congrats qwerty!. That’s great news!

Hi guys! Congrats to everyone who’s been accepted so far!

Applied back in mid-late September and received my acceptance letter almost exactly 3 weeks later. I applied to Swanson School for Engineering and was accepted with a major in Biomedical Engineering!

Figured I’d post my stats on here if anyone wants to know them, and since the merit scholarship decisions are coming out I can share that with you too.

I recently received a merit scholarship of $10,000 per year, which I am very excited about since I’m OOS and if I want to go to Pitt I’ll need all the financial help I can get. I also received a separate $2000 per year Engineering scholarship which is awesome, and applied for financial aid too which I have yet to hear back on.

Pitt is one of my top choices definitely, but it’s also the only college I’ve heard back from so far (not surprising since all the rest of my applications went out on December 30th hahaha). I also applied to University of Rochester, Case Western, University at Buffalo, Syracuse, Columbia, Cornell and Brown. Not expecting to get into the Ivies but I’m content with my other choices :)

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 2230 (CR: 750 Math: 720 Writing: 760)
ACT: Not as good as my SAT, so I didn’t end up using it in any applications.
SAT II: 710 Math II, 670 US History, 640 Physics (Also not that great but meh, sent them anyway. Mostly because I applied to a few Ivies who require a math and science subject test for engineering applicants.)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.92
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 7/287
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP European History (4), AP US History (4), AP Physics B (4), AP English Language (5), AP Music Theory (5)
Senior Year Course Load: 4 AP’s (technically 6 tests) - AP Calculus BC, AP Economics (Macro & Micro), AP Physics C (Mechanics & E&M), AP English Lit. Also taking Computers which is mostly an intro to Java stuff, plus music classes like Chorale and Wind Ensemble.
Awards (year received in parentheses): University of Pittsburgh Book Award (11. Don’t know if this helped with my acceptance any? Receiving it last year is what got me to look into Pitt), Scholar Athlete Award (11,12), WordMasters Award (10), Golden Cup Piano Competition (11, received a 96.4%), AP Scholar With Distinction (11)

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity Volleyball, Club Volleyball (Captain), Sweet 16 Girls A Capella Group (Assistant Director and Section Leader), Tri-M Music Honor Society (Vice President), National Honor Society (Math Tutoring Coordinator), CYO Basketball, Rec Soccer, Piano and Voice Lessons, Pit Orchestra for “Anything Goes” and “Legally Blonde” (Reed 1 flute & pic), etc. There’s a few more but you get the idea; I’m pretty good with extra curriculars and have done all of them for 3+ years, so that was probably one of the stronger points of my application.
Volunteer/Community service: Most of my community service is through NHS and Tri-M.
Essays: Pitt Prestige Application, but I submitted my common app essay to Pitt about a month ago anyway because I heard it might help with merit scholarships.
Teacher Recommendation(s): Sent some to other colleges, but not Pitt since they weren’t required.
Interview: Nada

Other:

State (if domestic applicant): NY

Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: $100,000-$150,000
Legacy: No one in my family has gone to Pitt; my dad went to Michigan State, mom to Rutgers and RIT, brother is currently at U of R.

Weirdly enough I still have yet to visit the campus! It’s about a 5 hour drive from where I live, we keep meaning to set a time to go especially since now Pitt has the accepted-student-Saturdays or whatever, but we’ll probably end up going over April break once I hear back from everywhere.

So relieved applications are over with and mid-year reports are done and sent! First semester of senior year looked pretty good, thank God. The senioritis is really setting in now though, I can feel it.

Good luck to everyone with their University of Pittsburgh and other college endeavors!
