To add insult to the injury, I have to pay for the stamp to reply to the waitlist questionnaire. You would think that after shelling out 65 bucks to apply, they wouldnt make you pay for the stamp to go on the wait list.

My son received his acceptance into the BFA Musical Theatre program today. There's a Facebook group for the 2013 MT kids...and probably other majors, as well. Login | Facebook

Congratulations to everyone who's been accepted. We're in information-gathering mode, but very much enjoyed our visit to the campus a few months ago, and are excited to have this option to consider. Best of luck to everyone who is waiting!!

AH! It seems like there were a lot of deferred or waitlisted. I'm currently a junior with my eye practically locked on Emerson (probably not great that i am so in love with it). If anyone ahs any advis for future aplicants, or could just say what yor gpa or sat score were so i could get a feel that be great.
Congrats on those who made it!

Cardinal Fang, it just says that "several hundred students were offered a place on our Wait List". It goes on to say that this is "unusually high" and that previous years have accepted between 0-228 Wait Listed applicants.

They probably can't be more specific. Reading between the lines, in this economic climate, Emerson doesn't know what yield to expect, so it has a long waitlist in case fewer than usual students say yes. But I wouldn't expect waitlisted students offered admission to get any aid.

I was accepted! When I applied this wasn't one of my top choices so I didn't bother trying to get into the Honors Program, but now I'm wishing I did because I got a tonnnn of financial aid, so it's looking better everyday, haha :)

Hey guys, my friend is on the waitlist for MT. I'm curious how it works, though - unless I misunderstood him, he won't find out if he was admitted or not until June 30th. But don't most colleges need the student to notify them of their enrollment by May 1? What does my friend do if he doesn't enroll and then finds out that he wasn't accepted into Emerson?

timewarp, if Emerson is your friend's top choice, he would need to accept at another school and risk losing his deposit if Emerson comes through. In many cases, it's not a ton of money, so it would be worth it for four years of being where he'd prefer to be. He might also ask the Emerson admissions office about the possibility of finding out sooner, although either way, it would likely be after May 1.

its not really about financial aid because the fafsa deadline is wayyy later. i did early action so i got my letter in december. i guess it just depends

Usually EA applicants are deferred not waitlisted. They wait till they get all the RD applications and of course the FAFSA in before they make the decision.

After being deferred EA, my son was rejected by Emerson. It was by far his number one choice so he was very unhappy but he's dealing with it. He knew that the program he applied to is extremely competitive.
The rejection letter was more about how they would like him to apply as a transfer next year and the exact steps Emerson wants him to take in preparation for the transfers. (Attend a liberal arts program freshman year, maintain a 3.0 GPA, contact a Emerson "Transfer Counselor" immediately.)
Is the transfer info standard on Emerson rejection letters?
He was accepted to the other colleges he applied to so we don't have another rejection letter to compare it to.

CrewMom, I don't know which program that your son applied to, but my daughter knows a lot of transfer students there, so if he has his heart set on Emerson , it does happen !

CrewMom, having gone through exactly what your son went through (applied EA, deferred, then denied, my number one choice and the only school I really wanted to go to) I feel for him. But! I think it is probably unusual for them to include information about transferring, they didn't on my rejection letter. This is probably a good sign for him in the future, I think that is probably a special thing.
Good luck to your son! Hopefully he can get in as a transfer if that is what he wants.

I am waitlisted but I got almost the identical rejection letter from Kenyon. Advising me that they would hold my file for a year if I was interested in transferring and advsing me what I had to do to be considered as a viable transfer candidate.

my daughter was rejected without any carrots dangling about transfers! she had a few rejections, which were surprising. i would love for her to get feedback from the school. one never knows if it’s talent lacking or grades etc. anyone got any ideas about getting feedback?

You can call the Admission Office directly (at 617-824-8600) and ask to speak with a counselor about your daughter’s application. They’ll surely be willing to talk to you about the evaluation process.
