Hey guys! So I got accepted early decision to Rice and it was great! I did not slack off and not do any school work. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA (all As) throughout high school. However, I will get my first B (87-88) in Calculus (It is a rough class). When I was accepted to Rice, they said that I had to maintain my grades. Would a B in Calculus make Rice rescind their offer of admission? I’m not trying to sound condescending or conceited worrying about my grades like this, but I would be pretty devastated if I got kicked out of Rice. My grades in my other classes are good, similar to my other grades throughout my high school career. Will a B in calc get me kicked out? I’m also going into bioengineering so I don’t know if that will make a difference. Please let me know what you think! Lit bit freaking out!
A “B” won’t get you rescinded. They’re about to ADMIT 1000s of kids, many of whom will have multiple Bs on their transcripts.
Ds, Fs, felonies and fraud – avoid these
I also need to let Rice know that I will be changing my schedule the second semester of high school. I will changing my schedule from Academic Decathlon to AP European History. I don’t know if that makes a difference
sigh — some perspective for you. You’re worrying too much.
Rice to you: fantastic college, promise of 4 years of great education, fun, life experiences
You to Rice: four years of room, board and tuition fees with hopes of future donations.
They’re ecstatic to have gotten your ED app and to have accepted you. Please relax. Go skip a class or two. run with scissors. drink out of the milk jug. leave the toilet seat up. throw away the recyclable bottle.
@T26E4 Thank you for your help! You are correct thou. I tend to worry a lot. I will try to relax and enjoy senior year!
I would still contact them about a schedule change. It won’t affect anything, but colleges do like to know about that sort of thing since they did accept you on the basis of the schedule you submitted. Congratulations on your ED acceptance.
However, you should report any changes of course selection compared to previously reported in-progress courses. Given your actual change, this is probably just a formality – they would be much more concerned if you changed from a schedule full of the most rigorous courses to a much less rigorous one. You may as well ask about the B grade if you are really worried, but it typically takes a much larger drop in academic performance to be rescinded.
If it were a D, it would be questionable. But by “maintain your grades” they generally mean do not slack off and get C’s and D’s.
