same here tower

is the studyin really THAT bad?! like.. non-stop studyin all the time? that definitely worries me.. college shouldn't be all about studying..
the students still seem to love it there tho.. i went up to visit in oct. and all the students really loved the school, despite all the work

yea, that love for the school is something that I really liked about Cornell. I've heard the workload is tough, but it's worth it and there is fun to be had.

where r u from hockeygenius?

im from central pa

My sister is at Cornell and loves it. During the week you are busy studying anyway, and there are tons of activities from being outdoors to various clubs and sports. On the weekends, it's a big release and everyone has a good time. However, the winters do suck, but I'm from upstate NY so it's not too bad after a while.

yeah i used to live in upstate NY, pretty typical NE winters, Cornell shouldn't be too horrible. anyway, how are the dorms? what's like to live in dorms?

I am a Junior, and may apply to Cornell or UVA early admission next year. I haven't visited Cornell yet, but I hate the sounds of all this studying. I personally hate studying. How are the parties? And how small is the town? I come from a fairly built up part of NJ, and my ideal school is UCLA, but too hard to get into out of state, and no early decision. I figure if I don't like Cornell or UVA (if I get in either) I can probobly transfer to UCLA with better chances than applying there as a Senior. I just don't want to suffer if I don't like it. How would others compare Cornell to UVA if you've visited both?

One stereotype I have about Cornell that may not be true is it is a bunch of nerds who take school and studying wayyyyyy to seriously. I mean I want to get good grades, but I don't want it to consume my life. I also want college to have plenty of parties and good times.

Uh I'm definitely not one of "those kids" who always studies and I'm going to Cornell next year. The stereotype I've heard about Cornell is that its intense acedemics during the week but it becomes a party school during the weekend. In high school I party hard every weekend but still get my **** together during the week, so I think I will fit in nicely here. Dodgerblue, I had the same difficult decision to make between UVA and Cornell. I ultimately chose Cornell because I think it will help me in the long run in landing a great job in business. The social scene is still amazing at Cornell although UVA definitely has hotter girls. Cornell is also considerably more prestigious than UVA, although its still a fine school with an excellent business program. I don't think the acedemic pressure at Cornell is as great in the College of Arts and Sciences where I am as the Engineering and Architecture schools.

Either school you can't go wrong, but personally I think Cornell would be a better fit for me and help my future career in business.

no hot girls @ Cornell? well that's about to change then ;)

haha. what's it like on weekends at Cornell? how crazy do they get? lol

I thought Ithaca College was made to supplement for the not so hot girls at Cornell :P

/sarcasm

Um...how's the partying during the week?

We study hard and come thirsty thursday we party hard until sunday morning when its back to the books. There's pleny of stuff to do. Winter suck its cold as hell. It's not in the middle of nowhere but having a car is super expensive and not worth it. I guess if you're a shy person you might not like it here. Frats are where its at if ur not 21 but our bar was ranked in playboy as the bar of the month for november. If you cant get into any other ivy's come here. Thats the case for most everyone ive met.

Whoever it was that said "the first few days are hell", you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The first week, orientation week is the best time you'll ever have in your entire life. No classes or pre-lims to worry about, it's one big party for the entire week.

"From then on, your "social life" will consist of the few times a day you congregate with a few other people at the local watering hole. A good day for you will be one where you can get a glimpse of the sun for a few fleeting seconds"
Hmm...I don't know what social life you're talking about but mine consists of partying 3 nights a week and hanging out around the dorms for the others after I get my work done.

The sun part is kinda true though. I didn't realize how much I missed the sun until it came out in May for the first time in 7 months.

sigh no one understands my sarcasm... but thats okay as long as it stirs coversation!

i sense the "andy borowitz" presence in you calmative: your sarcasm is appreciated here.

norcalguy, SEVEN months without the sun?? daammmmn! ... and don't worry calmative, i got it lol. :)

anything you guys know about the dorms?

Freshman dorms on north campus are brand new, I've been in the community center and it is sick.

I would hope you all appreciate freezing your asses off at Cornell, and also that you enjoy every SECOND of those never-ending study sessions as I would have if Cornell would have let me in!!!!!!!!!!! :(
