I have officially accepted Rice University's offer of admission and I am elated to be going to Rice! I now have to withdraw my applications to all other schools and I'm wondering how to best go about doing this. How is everyone else doing this? I was previously working on applications to five other private schools and one university of california and I want to be sure that they know I am going to Rice. Thank you for your help! I can't wait to meet my fellow owls! :)

Send them an email. Just say that you have accepted an ED offer elsewhere and request to withdraw your application.

Thank you, Antarius! I just sent the email to the private colleges…now I have to figure out how to best contact the UC’s.

probably just an email… they may have a place for it on their website as well, not sure.

^I was able to find an appropriate email address and the responding UC representative simply asked me to send my withdrawal request via mail; I dropped it off at the post office this morning! However, I haven’t received replies from any of the other schools in regards to my withdrawal request and I’m beginning to panic, as Rice requires that all other applications be withdrawn before January 2nd and most colleges are out of the office until January 2nd, beginning Dec. 24th. Should I call all five schools as an additional precaution? Or, do you have any other ideas as to what I should do? Thank you for your help!

Just inform Rice that you have requested that your application be withdrawn from all the other schools by email. There is a paper trail now, so do not worry. Just tell Rice that you have done so, but have not heard back.

They want you to have withdrawn by the due date. If they are out of the office, they will process it when they get back.

Thank you very much for your help, Antarius!

Make sure you hold onto copies of the email you sent, just in case. It is not going to become an issue, but it cannot hurt to have records. Once the schools respond, you can also let Rice know saying that you have heard back and all your applications are successfully withdrawn.

Finally, you are now accepted into Rice. So relax. The only way you can have your offer rescinded is poor grades or bad conduct, so feel free to email Rice with questions/updates. You do not need to worry about whether it will ‘look bad’ or not.

Congrats on your acceptance!
