Hey guys, I was accepted ED to Cornell in December. On my Common App, I had listed that I would be taking the AP Lit and Government exams, but I now realize that Cornell does not take these exams for credit.
Do I still have to take the exams since I listed them as “planned to take” on the Common App?
Following through with things that you have said you would do will get you a long way in life. What has changed since you said you would take those AP exams?
My d is not going to take AP Gov now. She’s still taking the class and doing well. Taking the exam and paying $100 seems pointless and a waste of money.
What changed for her? Well, the other schools on her list would have given credit for it. Cornell does not. When she was applying to colleges, she didn’t know where she would be going.
@irgendwo My son was once in a similar position, but at a different college. He called the admissions office and asked if he needed to take the AP exams. They told him that he did not have to take the exams.
You should call Cornell and ask them.
@irgendwo Adding to the @shuttlebus recommendation, specifically mention what @mom2twogirls said in post #2. That sounds reasonable to me.
From what I am reading, Cornell does give credit for AP Lit if you get a 5 - it takes the place of a freshman writing seminar. Also, if you are in Engineering, a 4 on AP Lit will take the place of one liberal studies class, so it might be worth it to take the test then.
