Accepted- financial aid question

Hello, my daughter made it into UCI CS program.

We are OOS from Dallas TX.

There is no word on acceptance letter about any aid/scholarship? Unfortunately kid doesn’t even remember if she applied (but we did promptly complete FAFSA).

Can someone let me know when they send out aid information?

Thanks
Sue

Congrats on your daughter’s acceptance. What a wonder outcome.

California universities are funded by California taxpayers. They count on oos students paying full fare (++) to help subsidize the cost. There is very little to no financial aid for oos students. Regents scholarship or campus wide honors program recipients were notified in February. Even these scholarships are minimal in comparison to the oos costs of attending a UC as an oos student.

It can take up to 2-3 weeks after acceptance depending upon the school. As an OOS student, she should expect to pay full fees at $65K/year. Most of the merit scholarships have posted for the early admits in February for the Honors college scholars.

Did you run the Net price calculator prior to applying?

Thanks. I had to hire a counselor to help her apply as I was unable to do it and they didn’t do such a great job. But I do know what the cost of attendance is. I was just not aware there won’t be any aid.

UCI has not posted the financial aid package yet. It may be too soon to expect it. My son’s portal says they have just received the FAFSA.

UC’s offer little merit and/or need-based aid to OOS applicants. The best need-based aid is given to in-state students via Cal grants and the Blue and Gold scholarship.

Merit aid is highly competitive and for UCI, the Regents and Dean’s scholarships have posted for the CHP admitted students already.

My daughter has been accepted to 5 UCs and we have yet to receive any financial information packets yet. UC San Diego did tell us we qualified for the blue/gold but that was the extent of it. Hopeing they come soon. We were told from the beginning that the UCs offer little to no financial aid. We are counting on the blue/gold scholarship as well as Cal Grant aid which the NPC does not account for. So we ignored the NPC and applied anyway. Hoping for the best.
