For anyone that has been accepted yet, how is the financial aid? Obviously it is circumstantial, but I've noticed that a lot of people are turning acceptances down to go somewhere cheaper. Is Columbia like NYU who is notorious for giving little if any aid?

no, it’s not notorious for its financial aid.

penn, dartmouth, university of chicago, and northwestern would have been more expensive for me… perhaps the financial aid isn’t quite up to par with harvard, but, hey, pretty much everyone gets rejected there anyhow…

Columbia was generous in its fin. aid package for me–they gave me ~34,000, most of which came from the Rabi Grant. Also, if another need-based institution (e.g. another ivy) offers you a substantially higher fin. aid, you can request another review, which is what I did. Hope this helps.

Columbia gave me 45,000 in grants, and like a 2700 work study. The offer was very, very generous. No complaints on my end for Columbia FA

Same here I got more than I expected, simply because my family’s income looks like upper-ish middle class (probably because we have next to no assets). I got 10x as much need-based grant aid from Columbia as I did anywhere else. Its still expensive but I’m happy.

I got roughly the same amount of aid from UChicago, considering Chicago does loans, and Columbia was actually cheaper than my state safety. Finances were a really small part of my consideration.
