My S21 decided to attend UCF over UF. Glad he made the choice to be debt free!
Is he Burnett Honors? What major?
Yes he is in Burnett and is majoring in computer science/computer engineering. He will start this coming summer.
twintoAM- There was an earlier thread about the BFA Emerging Media Character Animation. You can find it HERE
Tried to delete after I noticed twintoAM is the OP for the thread I linked.
@jeneric @JimDadinmia @vannevka and anyone else with current UCF students. Do they use a lanyard? I saw a cute one for $10 that I was thinking about getting for D, but curious if kids use them. It seems like they would be useful for the student id card/dorm key.
My daughter happens to be home for the weekend (her birthday), so I asked her.
Yes, she does use a lanyard for her dorm bedroom key, her bike lock key, and her mailbox key.
She does NOT use it for her Student ID card because that would require a sleeve because the ID does not have a hole in it. She carries her ID in her wallet, but some students use a lanyard for the ID as well. Youāll see a lot of lanyards on campus.
Thanksā¦ordered it. If she wonāt use it, I will find a use for it.
DD finally got accepted today after almost 3 months of waitingā¦ however, they accepted her for Spring semester instead of Fall. Anyone have any advice?
She has several other strong school choices (USF, UL, UIUC), but UCF was her number 1. Unfortunately, she could only take the SAT once as we are OOS and I think that put her lower in the applicant poolā¦ Iām just worried about her starting mid-year as a freshman.
First of all, welcome to CC!
Iām resisting my bias and first gut reaction ā which was to say YES to UCF, because itās your Dās number 1 (and my Dās).
But really, itās a complex question with many many facets. I donāt know anything about UL or UIUC (not even sure which schools those are). USF is a good school, and our Dās best friend is a student there now.
One important factor is the acceptance date. Does she have a deadline for accepting? If Spring is like Summer, there is often a 30 day acceptance period, and after that itās a NO.
One option would be to see if you can take courses at home and transfer the credits to UCF for the Fall semester.
Another important consideration is her intended major. Some majors, sheāll be fine (and equal) anywhere she goes. But others, the university matters greatly.
In the grand scheme of things, one term is not going to matter greatly. All things being equal, Iād be tempted to go with the #1.
Yes! USF! Son in same situation. Go somewhere that wants you it usually means a better fit. USF campus I liked more than UCF.
Good call on the lanyard- uses it everyday. She has one that has card holder built in, so she carries her student id in it. I donāt think she knows what a wallet or purse is!
I donāt think we needed our student Iād much at the LAC I attended back in the day. I think I just needed to say my student ID # for meals where a lady marked it off a sheet-ha! I must have kept room key in backpack or pocket. Lanyard seems like a cool idea to me, weāll see what D thinks. My h has lots of old lanyard sleeves she can use. I found a combo UCF lanyard/badge reel on Amazon.
True. Itās their ID, their meal plan pass, their dorm entrance and room key, and they can store cash on it.
And something not to forget ā it costs $50 to replace a lost ID.
How long did it take for you all to hear back for rolling admissions? Iāve been waiting almost 1 1/2 months and havenāt heard anything yet and am curious how much longer I should suspect.
also! I jus accepted my spot and put in my enrollmenet deposit but the screen stays the same and just took away the accept and decline button but left the normal acceptance messageā¦ Also i cant even accept my financial aid yet it doesnāt let me when i click the tabā¦ Anyone know anything about this processā¦ thanks!
They use their ids all the time. For those who have not been able to tour, all dorms are accessed by swiping your ID and then entering a code. The same is true for access to the rooms from the hall. Typically, once inside there are actual keys to individual bedrooms. I think some dorms may have a person at a desk- but gone are the days of having to sign people in etc. Most dorms you see no one from the time you enter the dorm to your room.
I am between Aerospace Engineering and Astrophysics. I am going to college in the fall (at UCF) and I am registered for Aerospace Engineering, but I am contemplating changing my major to Physics (BS)-Astronomy (astrophysics). It is a very difficult decision. Something I want to mention is that I want to be an astronaut one day and an Air Force Test Pilot prior to doing this. According to NASA, to become an astronaut, I need to ābe a U.S. citizen, Possess a masterās degree* in a STEM field, including engineering, biological science, physical science (physics, chemistry), computer science, etc.ā The Air Force states āPreferred degrees include aerospace engineering, computer science, chemistry, and physics.ā So both Aerospace Engineering and Physics are mentioned as preferred degrees for both of these careers. So from my understanding, I can get where I want with either degree. I have always been more interested in the theoretical aspects of the universe like gravity, relativity, etc. and I am fairly skilled in mathematics. As a high school senior, I am currently taking AP Calculus and AP Physics and I have a high A in both courses. So that is my dilemma here. I am not interested in working in academia and if I were to not become an astronaut or air force pilot, I would like to do something for NASA and the space program. Now, whether that is an Aerospace Engineer or Astrophysicist at NASA is the question? I originally chose AE because I wasnāt informed properly on Reddit forums and people were saying you would be stuck in academia and you wouldnāt be able to become an astronaut or air force pilot (with physics degree), whereas the websites say something contrary (list physics as preferred degree). Please help, with real factual advice. Not opinions. I want to preferably have this set before I leave for college at UCF in the fall so I can change my major if needed. Thank you!!
I think you identified your problem ā you got incorrect info from anonymous posters on an Internet discussion board.
Instead of trying to correct that mistake (if it actually is one) through a different anonymous Internet discussion boardā¦
I would contact the appropriate advisors at UCF who actually may know something.
I would also not get too excited about your major right now. You have plenty of time to decide your major, major changes are VERY common, and your course requirements for the two majors will almost certainly be very similar.
You can easily wait until you get to UCF and decide then.
Relax. Breathe in; breathe out.
And congratulations on your acceptance to UCF!
Does anyone know how to accept my financial aid offers on the portal? I have paid my deposit but it wont let me accept or decline my financial aidā¦ any help??
I think sometimes there is just a lag between the award and the Student Self Service working. I think that is particularly true with Financial Aid.
I would call Financial Aid directly and tell them you want to accept but the system wonāt let you. Use the search feature on UCF.edu for FA and youāll find their phone number.
