ok how does this work?? My son was accepted to FSU for summer 2012. He has since changed his mind about starting in the summer and I have emailed admissions to see if his term can be changed to fall, if not - summer it is, but I digress...

So I went on the housing portal and summer housing cannot be applied for until February. How then will he apply for Fall since he was not admitted for Fall? I think I have confused myself.

You still apply for fall/spring housing first. Summer term has fewer students so they don’t have to take care of that right now. The big job for FSU Housing is getting the fall/spring applicants set up for assignments so they will know what’s available for the students who get deferred until spring and the second round of admits for fall.

ok so when the housing portal opens back up tomorrow, we apply for Fall 2012 housing and then in February apply for Summer, right? And the portal will let him apply for Fall?

Summer and fall are separate housing contracts. If he does end up going for summer, he will have to move for fall. Only certain dorms are open for summer. There is a separate application and priority number for summer. Go ahead and sign up for fall, because that is the most important number, its the one that follows you throughout your time at FSU. If he has to go in summer, he should know by the time they start taking applications.
