Accepted--Going to Smith "Discovery Days"?

Oh and I hope Smith is more relaxed about it.. the woman on MHC seemed really headstrong on just coming to one or the other.

I think they are...someone else got Wellesley and Smith to cooperate; one is paying for her arrival and one is paying for her departure. They also agreed to split the cost of a van for her to go between the two schools.

We made arrangements to be at a college in the mid west during Smith's admitted student's open house. My D wants to visit though so I called Smith and made arrangements for a two day visit on another date. We will miss their dog and pony show but she will get to meet with the professors and ask some questions and spend the night on a regular evening.

Those of you going to MHC during Smiths weekend try to extend your visit by a couple of days. Smith has arrangements for overnights Mondays thru Thursdays. I'm certain they would make arrangements for you.

It is essential that you visit both.

Last year, several students had to choose between the prom and visiting Smith during the official weekend. I want to repeat what I said then: don't give up a once in a lifetime event (the prom or whatever) when you can visit Smith on another day. Yes, visiting is essential, but, as JBR points out, you can make arrangements for other times.

Gold Key members take in prospective students for overnights throughout the year. Smith professors will allow you to sit in on their classes (although arranging to do so in advance is probably recommended). There is a certain exhilaration in being part of a campus-wide flood of prospective students, but there is also value in evaluating the campus on a more normal day.

Well, then, Floot, you have your answer. Obviously, the decision that will decide your next four years takes precedence over a prom. My point was that not everyone has to make that choice since Smith allows visits at other times as well. Last year some students seemed to think that they wouldn't get the full experience if they did not attend that particular weekend.

You'll love it, Floot. I can almost guarantee that you'll have no doubts about which you want to attend by the end.

I don't think I got an invitation to Discovery Day - I got Open Campus instead. Anyone else going? I can't wait to see you all there.

I will also be going to the Discovery Weekend event by Friday noon. It is going to be a lonely train ride all the way from Penn station to Smith. This may sound quite silly, but I've never even been on a train before and all by myself no less! ...Yes, I think I need to get out more.

Blu-
No worries.
I took the train from Philly to Springfield, walked to the bus station and took that to Northampton earlier this year.
It wasn't bad at all. Make sure you bring a good book, and have fun at Discovery Weekend!

so, far i keep seeing that everyone who's gotten accepted to Smith is from the east coast or west coast...anyone from Ohio on here that's going to this Discovery thing?? :>/

Ohio? What an odd spelling. We do it "Idaho."
