Accepted into a different term at UF

Well I just got accepted to UF (very excited), but when i read the acceptance message, it said I was accepted into the Summer B term...i'm confused about this because I applied for Fall. It'll be hard to go to UF in the summer for financial reasons and things like that. So my question is: Why did this happen? And can I change it? I really want to go this school but going in the summer just won't do! Also did this happen to anyone else??

Are your stats low/borderline for UF? If they changed you to Summer it’s because they think you will have a better chance for success if you ease into college in the summer when there are thousands fewer students on campus and you aren’t trying to take five courses at once. You can try to appeal for Fall.

Honestly, if you just don’t want to go, you should reconsider! My boyfriend went to USF and for summer B, because that’s what he applied for. Summer is all about meeting people, exploring the campus, and getting used to college life before everyone else gets there. It’s only 2 classes, so it’s minimal as well.
If it’s a sticky financial situation, I would call UF, but if they say no, maybe try for a scholarship or get a student loan, grant, or something.
I actually wanted to go for summer, and I am glad I am ((:

Good luck !

What you apply for is more a suggestion to the admissions office, they basically counter-offered you. Usually this happens because your stats are a little lower then what they wanted for fall. For administrative reasons they want people coming in Summer Fall and Spring.

You can try requesting a change of term, it’s a crapshoot but I’ve heard of some people being successful. If you have legitimate financial concerns, that’d be your best option.

Otherwise, take 1 or 2 classes and have a smoother transition into college life. Summer B is good for freshmen.

When my son was accepted two years ago he was assigned to Summer B. He had an excellent summer job lined up that paid well. He emailed the admissions office requesting Fall term admission. He provided them with specific info on that job - where he would be working and his salary so that they would know how much money he would be losing if he had to leave that job earlier than planned. He also told them that this money was going to pay for his housing for his freshman year.
If they wished (don’t know if they did) they could check out the job info. He received a change of term fairly quickly. I think (can’t find the correspondence now) that it was within a week or 10 days.
I think if you have a similar situation they might look on it favorably. If you just want to change terms because you want the traditional fall college start date it might not turn out as well. I’m sure they also receive many requests to change because of the tuition costs involved - Bright Futures does not pay for Summer B - and housing costs. They probably couldn’t grant all of those either.
Many of his friends applied for Summer B and were thrilled to start a little early.
Good luck and congratulations on your admission to UF.

I am a freshman this year, and last year when I got my acceptance letter it said Spring 2011. I really wanted to go to UF but I didn’t want to wait until Spring to go, so I sent an email to the office of admissions telling them that I was requesting a term change due to financial and personal reasons which was all true. I had to decide if UF was the school I wanted because term change decisions don’t come out until about the middle of May, after the deposit deadline for all schools. They have to do this in order to see how many incoming freshmen they’ll have and if they have space to grant your term change. However, since you got into summer B you may be eligible for the AIM program, especially if you have a good GPA and low SATs. If you’re in this program you will be receiving information within a few weeks, and this program pays for everything during the summer so you wouldn’t have to worry about finances. My current roommate, a girl I went to high school with was accepted into this program and it’s been very good for her. If you do decide to continue with the term change and you get it know that you will have to start looking for an apartment because you will NOT receive a dorm, the dorms are for everyone who was accepted summer or fall and if you request a term change you will be on the very bottom of the list of dorms, and they will fill up before you can get one.
