I applied to UCR and got accepted to the major of Undeclared - Mathmatical Sciences in the College of Natural and Agricultural (NCAS), i accidently put this as my alternate as I have no intention of majoring in this area. Is there any way I can change my major to computer science before I get to the school??
You cannot change your major until you finish the Fall quarter and the required courses for a CS major transfer as listed below. You should talk with an advisor about switching majors during Freshman orientation so you will be on track with your classes.
Good Academic Standing
No less than a C- in any major course
2.0 GPA in all major coursework
Complete major within max units
2.7 GPA in CS 10 or CS 10V and MATH 9A
C or better ENGL 1A
So would that also mean I’d have to take classes related for NCAS major?
Since you are a Freshman and undeclared, you would be taking GE’s and Pre-req courses in the first couple of quarters. That is why I suggested you meet with an advisor during orientation. Not sure how UCR does registration but at my son’s UC, declared CS students get priority on registering for the CS courses so non-majors have a difficult time getting the classes. I would always defer to your advisor on how to proceed with the major change.
