Ok, the location is Berks, in fact I chose the secondary campus ( first choice of course is college park) randomly but after I told my high school college advisor he was like:" it is not worth going to because it is not the main one and it is a small town which I would definitely not have a good time there even though I won’t stay here for more than two years blah blah blah."
Fine, I almost change my mind because I got into Rutgers NB SOE and Northeastern University (one is cheap the other one is pretty expensive tho).
However, I received an email yesterday from Berks answering my questions on requirements of transferring into certain programs in college Park for Junior, the guy in the email typed:
Since you are currently accepted into the Smeal College of Business you will be able to take classes at the Berks campus towards your major. You would then complete your degree at the University Park campus (for your final two years).
And I have seen several other posts saying it is hard to transfer into Smeal college of Business.
So what should I do? Stay in berks for two years or Rutgers NB or NEU?
I think the confusion comes because people accepted into Smeal their freshman year aren’t actually IN a major until they have met all of the entry to major requirements. I believe for Smeal that means passing the entry to major requirements with a 3.2 or better. You will have the exact same opportunities to take the Smeal classes at any branch (not just Berks, so maybe do some research and see if there is another branch campus that would fit your personality…Altoona is closest to University Park, Erie campus is largest branch, etc…). To add to the confusion , DUS majors (undecided) can ALSO take all entry to major requirements for any non direct entry major. So you don’t even have to be Smeal to take Smeal classes.
Most majors have only a 2.0 GPA requirement to be able to transition into the major for your Junior year. Smeal is a 3.2 - which is why you will hear it is harder to get into a Smeal major.
You may want to call admissions at University Park and see if you changed your major to DUS, if you could get into Main campus. Others have had success doing this - and you could take the exact same classes as if you were Smeal for the first two years.
I can’t speak to the other schools as I don’t know anything about them, but I loved PSU when I went there - my husband also went there and my Daughter is starting there this coming year. So if you ask me…Penn State gives the most options in campus location and major changes. If you decide Smeal isn’t for you - there are 160 majors at Penn State to change into!
Northeastern is a terrific school and its co-op program is highly renown. Rutgers is also good and has a very good alumni base, but not as prominent as Northeastern or Penn State.
